This fight should have been on CBS on free tv, Showtime is thinking short sighted though

Mayweather was smart for running after the guaranteed money after Manny lost, i'm sure his team knew the casual fan would be interested in a Mayweather match, post Manny vs JMM debacle. Him going after guaranteed allowed Floyd to have 0 ****s about the ppv sales, no shenanigans no antics, no nothing, he already got his cake. Shitttttttttt he didnt even bother promoting the fight he had Guerrero doing that, while he trained. Mayweather doesnt care about the ppv sales at this point. Showtime has to think smart though they cant just put any Floyd fight on ppv, they dont have the machine behind them like HBO, and will blow millions upon millions doing that foolish again.

Mayweather has little opponents left besides Canelo so all his future PPV's may be low, they have to work around that and pick and choose their ppv bouts, and which to show on Showtime/CBS to add hype and bring in fans, because people wont be satisfied paying to see the Alexander's of the world

I wonder how much leverage Showtime has. They must have some sort of get out, if not they're on the hook for potentially another five haircuts. Hopefully he's not guaranteed $32mm regardless of opponent.

It makes sense because the promotion was weak. Most of the casuals I know didn't care for that fight at all because they knew nothing about Guerrero. Floyd is going to have to face a bigger name this time around. Everyone saying Manny's defeat played a role in the PPV buys being low makes a good point as well.

Or Guerrero was known to stand about a zero chance of winning.

People have paid for Floyd mismatches in the past. He needs to give the fans something to get them to pay again. The numbers for Floyd/Cotto were solid because that was a solid fight.

His cherry picking is obvious to even the most casual of fans, and they aren't going to pay for it any longer.

This very well could be the case of I'm not buying the fight I'll go see it at a bar. That's what I did and a lot of others did as well. The bar I was at was packed even for the first fight. I guess most weren't familiar with Guerrero enough to warrant spending $70 on him. Usually during most PBF fights I know of a lot of fight parties this time there weren't as many and most people I know saw it at bars.

Anything under break even comes out of Showtime's Boxing budget as far as I'm aware. That's bad for Golden Boy because Sho is their only home and it's bad for us, the fans because there won't be enough money to make decent GBP fights on Showtime.

Maybe it'll force everyone to try and make Mayweather-Canelo as it's the biggest fight in terms of numbers but if Floyd doesn't wanna play ball, I doubt it'll happen

Floyd has an out in the contract after the first fight. I haven't read if Showtime does or not.

lol I thought Floyd was the cash cow. I knew this fight wouldnt do 1m, Guerrero is no name opponent. It'll probably end up doing Pac-Clottey / Pac-Bradley type numbers.

    Never been refuted :deal

It would be hilarious if Showtime did as well and they opted out.

Winning had nothing to do with it. Going in most people think PBF is going to win. Some hope he might lose but deep down inside they know he won't. Guerrero was really unknown so people didn't want to pay full price at home but instead go to a bar. BTW I didn't know you could cherrypick a mando? Guerrero earned his shot.

That's the main thing here. Usually I don't give a **** about PPV numbers but if this means Showtime has less money to put on fight :-(. It was a stupid deal by Showtime from the start. GUARANTEEING Floyd his purse for 6 fights with Canelo the only possible star opponent? Idiotic business move. That's how desperate they were to get Floyd over to Showtime but it might just end up biting them in the arse.

Like someone said, if he actually fights again in September it's going to be someone like Devon Alexander and how is that going to sell any better?

Period. Floyd made away like a bandit, now Showtime has to fix this mistake.
Did Showtime not do any homework in terms of who was left for Floyd to fight. Did they think Mayweather vs Usman uzzy could sell 1m?
