from dan last week they just dont have enough info yet ere is what Dan Rafel said in the chat on ESPN on Friday Jon (NYC) Any word on the Star Power PPV buys? Been two weeks and nothing from HBO or Golden Boy! Could it have done that bad? Dan Rafael (12:24 PM) I have been in touch with Richard Schaefer and HBO regularly. They simply do not have enough data yet from some huge systems to make an accurate report of the numbers. What people dont realize is that when numbers are announced they are done based on years of experience and extrapalation of numbers based on comparing fights to other similar fights and totals in certain markets. For whatever reason this fight has been harder than others. That said both Schaefer and HBO, without saying a specific number they do not have yet, both have told me that without question the fight is well over 1 million buys. The big question is how much over. They want to announce a number that they believe will be close enough to the real number and since it may be 1.3 or more and edge close to 2nd all-time non heavyweight they want to be right. By the same token, it could be 1.2 or 1.25 and not hit 1.3. They just want to be correct from what they both tell me. But the rumors and innuendo that it did poorly is just a load of crap.
The are still trying to squeeze out every last ppv numbers they could get I got a feeling the PPV number will be less than they expected cause otherwise they would have had released the numbers in a week like Floyd's last fight with Mosley :deal
I figure this PPV would draw a lot more than 1.3 Million with Morales and Alvarez on the card. The numbers wouldn't be disappointing, but it would be below expectations.
You serious? Look at how many non heavy weight PPV fights in history have done that and get back to me
I don't believe anything that involves Fraud. Just reporting what a respected boxing journo twitted. :good This content is protected
(whos twitter is that) Dan Rafel who actually talks to the people at hbo and GBP says Isai (OKC) Heard this morning that PPV buys for Mayweather could be as low as 850k. How possible is the statement? Dan Rafael (12:59 PM) From what I have been told by Schaefer and HBO that is preposterous. Much higher.
If only that were true. Would pretty much kill the hungry young lion/tiger/bull idea Mayweather and Golden Boy are riding, shelving the future Khan, Alvarez bouts, and putting more pressure on them to make the Pacquiao fight. It's probably 1.3 as estimated elsewhere.
