Well there's what, like 2 PPV's a year? In boxing's most expensive year, maybe you can find 3 PPV's and that would be a lot. Boxing is the only sport where you have to pay extra to watch it, World Series, NBA Playoffs, NFL Super Bowl, etc. is all free on network television. The way I see it is, Okay we already get free sports, I don't care about paying a premium for just one sport. The truth is on average, there's like 2 PPV's a year that go any where from $60-70, then there's the $15 bucks/month for HBO, $15 for Showtime, or something like that, which is around $350 a year + the two PPV's you got a little under $500. Then if you you don't have HBO and Showtime, you got streams.
No! only true super fights are PPV worthy, a true super fight = Pac vs Mayweather 4 yrs ago. Defenitely not this **** you saw Saturday, Mayweather vs some puffed up slow flatfooted light weight getting a payday.
It is ridiculous. It wasn't too long ago where 50 bucks why a PPV cost, and I thought that was pushing it.
Actually, if people boycotted it, the price would still go up. Think about it this way: If the entire United States organized a week-long gasoline boycott, you better believe the price of gas will jump higher when you go to the pump 8 days from now. Why? The price has to go up, in order to compensate for the loss earnings during the boycott. Plus, it is highly unlikely that you will get a greater audience following the boycott, than you did prior to it. Another concern is how easy it is for people to stream these pay-per-view events online, for free. (A big loss of pay-per-view purchases here!) Bottom line: I'll be surprised if the price for pay-per-view events stay at $69. I expect it to be well over $100 within the next few years. (God forbid what would happen if another economic crisis happens here in the United States in the very near future. That would be our 3rd one since 2000.)
Considering the amount of things people trick off 70 dollars on (girls/dates, music downloads, concert tickets, night out drinking/clubbing, clothes and accessories, car detailing, weekly haircuts/shaves/edge ups, strippers, etc.), I say yes. But YMMV.
If you like the fighter and want to see him perform, why not? Mayweather is the best fighter, biggest name, and fights once a year. You bet your ass I'd want to see him fight when he does, no matter the opponent.
I can afford it but I feel like I am getting ripped off at those prices so I just watch it the next day for free without knowing the outcome. Floyd is a great boxer and all, but I need a little hint of danger in my boxing and I don't get that with him. The crowd seemed pretty bored with the whole thing too, so I'm curious to see how well his next fight sells. Like to see the ppv numbers for this one too
