For a few years I have heard about the So-Called "Casual Fan". I have heard so many interesting comments....I remember posters arguing about who deserved the biggest percentage of the purse.....DLH and Trinidad sounds familiar to you?...... I think they do. ...... Any way, fans on this board have been arguing for a few years even up to this date about PPVs and who puts more asses on their seats......I have heard comments such as "He can't even draw flies"...... ...... and when things go bad we say.....it was because the "Casual Fan" didn't know who XXX boxer was. ...... the question is.... how do we know the influence of the Casual Fan? .....how do we know the % they represent or they might represent at any particular event? ..... is it possible to know what the influence of the casual fan is going to be before hand? Please discuss.
Use to love me some ppvs-I'd order them all. Now I'm getting tired of the **** being passed off as ppv. There are and should be some ppvs. But they need to be better cards and fewer of them.
These guys put their lives on the line and deserve something for it, if you don't like it then simply don't order.
Huge misconception. The sport of bixing can't draw flies ratings wise. PPV is the only way to get fights made and pay the fighters what they deserve. There isn't a network on the planet that would give up a prime time slot and pay up 10-15 million for an event that is only going to give them 4 million viewers.
Absolutely! The average poster here thinks that boxing's ills can be solved if networks would just show the big fights for free without understanding that the money to pay the boxers must come from somewhere. If viewership doesn't allow for a netwrok to justify the time and sponsors are unwilling to pay for advertising then WHO pays the expenses of the event? The boxers fight for free? PPV is the only way.
i agree with you on this. A mega fight cannot be made on normal TV but boxing does need to try and gain more mainstream exposure through the networks
some of the PPV fights now on , used to be on WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS. OR REGULAR HBO. PPV is out of control AND i STOPPED BUYING YEARS AGO. i'M not even going to buy Cotto/ margarito most likely the best fight of the year.
BULL****! Why does a crossdressing runner like DLH DESERVE 50 million a fight? I've never even seen the Golden ***** in a real barnburner since Feb. of 1999 against Quartey. He is a good fighter, but not worth 50 million a fight. Is Oscar better than Ali, or Holmes or the Big 4 of the 80's? NEVER, he couldnt carry threads off of the jockstraps of any of these REAL champions. PPV is fine and well, in it's place, but if I'm gonna blow 50 bucks for a fight, I want to see some things. 1. A GREAT Fight. A massive main event, of King Kong vs Godzilla proportions. 2. A GREAT undercard. Everytime Golden **** Promotions puts on a PPV I am forced to watch GBP ex olympians in their 8th fight for 10 boring ass, insomnia curing rounds. 3. Ringgirls. I am paying 50 bucks for this ****, and for the boring ass prelims, I have to see some unknown fighter spitting, instead of a thong wearing stripper. 4. Better Broadcasting Teams. Emmanuel and Lamps are "ok" but lets see some others as well.
Well you certainly contributed to the argument with logic and well thought reasoning with positions like "Bull****, crossdressing, Golden *****, Golden **** and lets see some others."
Also, as far as "Casual" fans, these dolts dont know an uppercut from a hook. They dont follow our sport, and they dont know who Juan Diaz is. They never followed boxing, and talk of Muhammad Ali "being ******ed now"....They all love Oscar de la Hoya and to them, he is a Boxing god. They (NONE OF THEM) dont know the 1st ****ing thing about scoring a round (kind of like Beware of Dawg)...they all love the NFL, the corrupt and FAKE ASS NBA and MLB. But they couldnt tell you who the WBC Welterweight Champion was last year.

I have been to hundreds of boxing events big and small. I have met dozens of world champions and I do not know who most of the so called world champions are now days. I do not know who the WBC welterweight champion was. There are over 20 sanctioning organizations with more than 100 "world champions". I can name maybe 8 or 10. The casual fan might be able to name 1 or 2.
