IMO, Vitlai is an intimidating fighter. I think Vitali intimidated Peter a little in the pre-fight press meetings. While some think this stuff doesn't matter, being intimidated can kill confidence in the ring.

    Its a fair cop guv.

I did not think that Klitschko could recover his previous form after four years and repeated injuries. Historical prescidence was on my side.

In the final event I was confronted with not only a dangerous version of VK but the single best win of his career. I should have consideed that a guy who stretched Garry Kasparov to 31 moves in a chess match was not going to make a comeback if he expected to get embarassed.

One of my previous criticisms of VK has always been his lack of wins over ranked oponents and a win over the No2 ranked WBC champion obviously goes some way to adressing this. I also found him to be a bit more methodical than I had thought based on previopus fights.

One of the reasons he doesn't have wins over big names is that what manager was ever out there calling Vitali out? He was WBO champ in what 99 or 2000? Nobody wanted anything to do with the guy & would take their fighters on that path of least resistence method that's so popular these days.
But those guys knew something and there's a reason they didn't sign contracts.

It is a problem that a number of talented heavies have had historicaly.

George Godfrey being a case in point.

No, actually, I believe Mendoza's thread turned out a 9-4 vote for Vitali.

I did not know how close to form Vitali would be but leaned towards him because of styles but I did expect Peter to try and press him more but he felt the power in the 1st rd and made a silent agreement not to press...i still thought Vitali would win but did not really think he could do it so easily with 4 yrs out and no tune up...He was always one of my favorite charactors but his stock went up

Picked Vitali, but I didn't make a strong pick because I beleive the fight to be primarily about his condition, and you can never be sure.

What's strange about Vitali in a way is that, at least on the previous board I was on, Wlad was regarded as the heir apparent and Vitali the ugly duckling who would not go far.

Right now I think many people would say Vitali is the number one guy out there, and may have always been the better of the two.

I think Vitali is a better fighter than Wlad, most definitely. All this, "Wlad is technically better, offensively better, blah blah blah", fair enough, but as a fighter, overall, Vitali is better.

He's a good guy too, a good man in my estimation.

Peter was intimidated long before fight night and the crowds that were there, hostile or not. Vitali seemed to to have him psyched out on every photo I would see of them together. V.K. towering over him and glowering at him, and telling him "you're nervous? relax, I won't hurt you now", or whatever it was reported that he said to Peter, seemed to really unnerve him. Great psyche job by Vitali.
