I heard this one story on another forum, from a poster from Texas. He seems like a reliable source. Curtis Cokes and George Foreman were in Canastota for the Hall of Fame weekend, as both were being inducted. Someone from Cokes's group wanted Foreman's autograph. Foreman was grumpy, but Cokes politely asked Foreman to sign something for his friend. Foreman signs it, shoves it back fast to Cokes's friend, and says to him "I only signed it because you know Curtis". Then the cameras come on, and out comes the 138 million dollar smile.
Didnt Joe Gans do this a lot? Im asking in serious, not a rhetorical thing. I heard he would tell his corner how hed achieve the ko abd then do it in the part of the ring he said he'd do it
In regards to Foreman vs. Moorer, Foreman did set that punch up. He was trying all fight. He would throw left hooks to Moorer's body in hopes of changing Moorer's direction, or at least get him to stand in the line of fire. I believe Foreman's claim to hold back in the beginning is bull ****. It just took him that long to catch him.
Just watched a tape of Benetiz-Dave Moore from the General Forum. Amazingly, Benetiz stalks, and K.O.s Maurice Hope with what appears to be a "pre-meditated right hand". Old Wilfred....again on a seek & destroy mission.
well foreman i think wanted somthign to proove that he wasnt the dumb one. he was outsmarted and outmanouvered by ali and looked a complete...dope i think he really wanted to say somthing like "oh yeah i planned it" a right hand against a southpaw isnt exactly new. and george wasnt trapping him moorer freely walked into it at times. should of read the flashing light.
miranda banks was a good one. he let banks do what he wanted to at least give banks some self estem after that right hand. bernard hopkins-felix trinidad maybe? all night hopkins threw a left uppercut to bait tito to throw the left hook. when he did he launched that right cross. it took soem time but it got there. you could see in round 3 that he was trying to trap him. james toney - charles williams all night james was waiting for williams to throw his jab when he did so a right hand went over it and smacked him on the jaw...charles showboated but it wasnt long before he was going to get him.
I read the same thing. I think I may have even heard George say it. As far as getting out of the way after the first 1-2, I think Moorer's brain was allready shutting down after that first 1-2. One of my favorite moments in boxing history, I actually feared a bit for George in this fight as I thought he was really past it
