Ok its all speculation to how good Ayala would have been, but I feel a guy like Mayorga he would handle. Just a much better technician than Mayorga, stronger, and did have a wicked left hook. Mayorga fights hard, but is out gunned by the baby bull, and gored to the body. Ayala KO 8.
Pretty much what i would have said in fact i agree with you on the round too. Would have been an awesome fight too.:bbb
After pissing Tony off with his ****-talking, Mayorga gets taken out as fast and brutally as Robbie Epps...if not moreso. Ricardo won't want to go near any mirrors for a long while. :!:
Some might overrate him but for the most part i think hes underrated. Not on his resume (cause its not that great) but skill wise hes underrated. Alot of people here let their personal feelings towards his outside the ring behavior, get in the way of their judgement on his in the ring abilities.
I have no problem with Ayala but his amount of air time he gets here is pretty funny. Ayala would have beat the brakes off of Davey Moore though, too bad he did what he did before he could have proved that.
He's one of those guys thats made for these fantasy matchups, because no one really knows how good he was. Many insist he was a future atg, and others think he was a hype job. My thinking is that he would have beaten alot of damn good fighters and could have been great, however i dont feel he was unbeateable, as he was still young and never was experienced at the elite level. I rate him higher than most here do,but not as high as Laxpdx.
Ayala was one of those fighters who look great winning, but he would probably look terrible losing. He was a bad ko waiting to happen.
Yey well he could be caught but i see him as more resilent and determined than most i think that would see him thru against most punchers, if he ever did get kod he wouldnt go away easily.
I know he was old but he quit against Campas as soon as the going got tough for him. Would that have happened at his best? We don't know but plenty of other washed up fighters have proven that their heart has been the last thing to go and have gone out on their sword as opposed to sitting on a stool like Ayala did.
I think Ayala just had the extra something in him when he was up and coming. I could see it in the way he fought. Remember when Maldanado dropped and hurt Ayala? El TOrito just got more mad and got up to finish Maldanado. I really believe Duva when he says that Ayala brought a ferociousness and competetiveness that he hadnt seen since Marciano. I remember that War with Campas. I think his corner wanted to stop it, i remember how heartbroken Ayala was when they stopped it, i might be mistaken but im not so sure Ayala quit.:huh
I'll have to have a look myself but I thought Ayala couldn't come out because he said he had a broken hand and could no longer keep Campas off him or defend himself properly. That's why we don't know for sure how he would have dealt with adversity, sure he got up from a knock down against Maldanado but how would he have gone in an extended war with a fighter who could take his best shots and return in kind. We just never found out and it was all Ayala's own fault.
This 100%. There is no way to tell how tough the guy was. Usually guys like this with poor character dont have the goods. He just didnt do enough to show how he could handle a tough fight, so theres no way to to tell how he does against Mayorga who would be putting a lot of pressure on him. Mayorga sucked but he was hyped by actually beating beltholders. Ayala never proved even that much.
I was never a big Mayorga fan. I thought he is wild and undisciplined as a fighter. If a guy was disciplined and had some defense to get under those wild punches Mayorga was never a problem. Although Tony Ayala really did not have experience against good fighters at all, I think he might be able to beat Mayorga in the late rounds.
