Predator 2 and Exorcist 2...the similarities? (A high School Essay)

I agree that Exorcist 2 was terrible, also, bat**** insane at points. I will argue that Predator 2 is pretty awesome.

1) moving it from a literal jungle to a figurative 'urban' jungle was a good idea. It provides contrast to the first. And it makes the point that there is a food chain in human civilization and we are surrounded by 'predators' in many forms (as in: drug dealers / criminals can be considered predators who hurt / kill others).

2) The fact is, Arnold had to lose all of his tech - such as it was - before he was able to defeat the Predator. In a sense, he had to strip himself to his animal base before he was able to kill the monster. Same thing with Glover, he never had a technological advantage but his lack of mechanical means made sure that he paid attention to his instincts, which is just how Arnold succeeded.

3) Predator 2 showed us that the Predator is not evil, but rather a sporting type, maybe to make us consider how we hunt and kill animals we consider to be inferior. Plus, like us, the Predator does so with the technological equivalent of hunting a deer with a machine gun.

4) With the exception of Bill Duke and Shane Black it's not like Predator was a cast of Oscar contenders. I'd put the Predator 2 cast in an 'act-off' with the Predator cast any day of the week.

5) And you're saying that Danny Glover is misplaced in this film? A black guy as a cop in Los Angeles? You don't find an Austrian named 'Dutch' traipsing about the jungles of Columbia to be a strange casting direction?

I'm not saying that Predator 2 is better then Predator, but, it's pretty good in it's own right. It certainly has far fewer of the WHAT THE **** IS GOING ON moments that Exorcist 2 has.

 

Predator 2 got way too much flak. It was a great popcorn flick with solid action and acting.

Can you show me the over of the Exorcist 2 you saw (there are 2 seperate movies)

 

I thought both films sucked.

I thought Danny Glover was good in Predator 2. So so movie. I did think it was cool that the Predator sided with the faction that was getting stomped, almost as if it was disgusted by the kidnapping and torture going on, because the Yautja take dead trophies, not live ones.

But wait, in the Predators movie, the bigger sub-species do the exact same thing, so I'm not so sure. Maybe the Colombian guy getting tortured was reminding the originals of how they were treated by the bigger sub-species.

Also there's a bunch of tongue in cheek bs in Predator 2. For example they're not the type of species that practices an agrarian society, yet they have a fondness for the Meat Factories bovines where the finale takes place. 'Beef.' is being used figuratively and literally here. They're attracted to 'heat.' also literally and figuratively, as stated by Ana in the original.

 

Yeah, that too. It was f*cking epic when King Willie just casually resigned and strolled out to meet his demise.

 

Predator 2 is legend. Great sequel.

 

yeah he ranks right up there with SCREW FACE from that Steven Segal movie
