Devon, Odd, Vitali never had a bad cut before this fight, and never had a bad one after this fight. His cut resistance in 250+ fights amateur and pro boxing has been good. So in less than .5% of Vitali's fights, his skin was an issue. Wins on cuts in boxing are pretty rare. Lewis was cut too ( over the nose ) , and had the more swollen eyes. If you watch the films closely, Lewis has an illegal backhand swipe right over Vitali's eye region. Fightnews.com reported the laces/tape on Lewis glove causes the cut. We'll never know for sure, but view this: This content is protected IMO with a full training session, Vitali would TKO Lewis, who had no answer to his jab. Lewis never looked bad before, Vitali made him miss and look bad. Lewis said he's re-match, and had 18 million up for him. After trying to make fights with Roy Jones and Kirk Johnson, the WBC ordered the re-match. Lewis after talking like an active fighter, quickly retired. That tells me everything, he wanted to fight easier matches but did not want to lose to Klitschko. Re-matches are important. What if Joe Louis never re-matched Schmeling? Or Ali re-match with Frazier? Lewis sought re-matches when he lost ( McCall and Rhaman ) , but never game them in close fights ( Mercer, Vitali, and Bruno ) For those picking Lewis to win all seven matches, which chin is he borrowing for these fights? I doubt that. 5-2 is more likely than 7-0.
Lewis was a great heavyweight but he is incredibly arrogant in interviews. He geniuenly believes that he could have beaten any version of Tyson with the same ease and he said a Vitali rematch would be easy for him. He is beyond delusional, or perhaps he isn't very honest.
I took into consideration Vitali's cuts in the first Lewis fight when I gave my initial opinions. I would have picked Vitali to beat Lennox in a 2004 rematch barring cuts or injury of some sort, as I wrote. It's possible Lewis comes in better and sharper in a rematch. If so, he could win, but it's likely a tough ask again at this stage of Lewis' career. Klitschko isn't going to cut badly every time. In addition, Vitali was on the way up with added confidence and motivation and Lewis would have been maybe a whole year older in a rematch and was on the way out in his career.
Bowe beats him Imo. Bowe beat prime Holyfield while Lewis struggled woth past prime Holyfield who was washed and ancient. Bowe jabs him and win UD or KO McCall style. Ibeabuchi would beat him I think by UD because Ike had een better power, chin and workrate than Holyfield Lennox faced. Byrd is 50/50 because I heard Lenny had problems with southpaws and that Byrd beat him hin sparing but since Byrd had so weak power it would be UD fight again it is 50/50 since Lenny could decisioned him easy or Byrd could outbox him. Lewis TKO Moorer like he did to Ruddock because Moorer is a LHW with not that good chin. He would UD Mercer 90% or lose in McCall fashion but Lennox at his best would win. He wold beat the crap of Ruiz who was good southpaw but not in the same level as Byrd. Byrd was knocked cold by Tua and beaten by ancient Holyfield and Lennox would knock him in mid-late rounds. This is only my oppinion which could be wrond and my prediction would be maybe wrong but I still would think those fights would end like I predicted.
Sixty eight stitches in 3 cuts in 3 different places were caused by an illegal back hand? When did Vitali rematch Byrd? When did Wlad rematch Sanders? One thing Lewis can claim is he beat everyone who beat him, neither of the Klits can make that claim!
