Agreed, although I think Wilder finds ways of getting better leverage on his shots inside than Kovalev typically does.

    I'm going with Wilder.

I really hope he wins and I'm from the UK.

I want Fury so that bias might be affecting my judgement, he would be my cert pick without the layoff, I still think he will maul a win but I respect Wilders power.

It really depends on what type of condition Fury can get into< Fury as a boxer would be the type of opponent that could trouble Detontay but Wilder can also hit very hard and can be aggressive on the attack. If Fury can get into some type of form near the Klitschko fight he has a good chance but coming off 2 fights that he had who knows. Fury is crazy enough to give Wilder a tough go but lets see what type on condition he can get into, 12 rounds is 12 rounds

could be a blow out or it could be a fire fight, Fury at his best is a talant but Wilder is another 6"7 freak

This is the right idea IMO.

Fury has a size advantage and a style advantage. But we have no idea, based upon the two performances we've seen, if he's anything like as good as he was. His performances in those fights would offer a resounding "no" but it's Fury. He looked awful against bad opposition before his depression and drug abuse. Then he turned in that unhittable performance against Wladimir. Well, up until he got hit while trying to pull his shorts up

Anyway or no, it's a nightmare. Because if he can still fight like THAT, then Wilder is reduced to a puncher's chance. If he doesn't have that left he's going to be a huge, static target who has to try to win by stealth. Hard twelve rounds that.

I'm reminded of Vitali v Peter. The answer to the question of who would win that fight was "it depends entirely how much Vitali has left." From a physical and stylistic perspective, Peter was utterly chanceless, but the guy he was fighting was possibly busted.

For me it's the same thing here. Many won't agree, but I think that there is literally a given percentage over which Fury can't lose - might be 93, 94, 95, whatever, but once he's over it he can't lose and below it he can't win.

    Barring that punchers chance.

Longwinded way of saying I don't know

But, basing my pick upon boxing history, as we are, after all, in the Classic forum, i'd have to pick Wilder, albeit with a heavy heart. It's a lot for Fury to come back from, that. I wish he'd taken one more.

We've just seen what lay offs can cause in combat sports. Smart money is on Wilder, bit **** me, it would be special if Fury could pull it off!

Furys had 2 fights in his comeback...wilder hasn't fought since Ortiz this makes it somewhat equal where fury has accumulated over 14 or so rounds because it will have been 9 months till Dec which wilder fought last, that gives a 6 month advantage for Fury in terms of activity who also has a far better skill set .

Smart money is on the guy who can win rounds ,odds are this goes to championship rounds. wilder will have to take chances and he will then get caught and hurt if he tries to win past round 8.

    It's an interesting bout.

One of those bouts that are so easy to dissect Monday morning after the bout. In a nutshell, because it'll be a mistake or mistakes 1 guy makes to cost him the fight. And most likely not a fixable mistake against this particular opponent.

I think it's a 1 sided affair one way or the other. Either Fury dominating A to Z or Fury getting clipped and not handling that power. He may not get hit clean until later in the fight, but once hit, he'll stay hit. And a likelyhood he is not as elusive as he used to be. And that can cost him big time against this guy.

As for the outcome, this looks like a bout where you have to wait until late to make a certain prediction---sparring rumors/injuries and the weight of Fury type issues. And I still think one of them pulls out for an injury and postpones things.

Points taken, but who do you think is in better shape? For me it's Wilder, I don't think that's really up for debate, so if you think it's going to the championship rounds would it not make more sense to back the guy that is in the best shape of his life rather than the guy that's has had 2 fights since 2015? Just my two cents

Wilder poses a tough fight for the Fury that beat Wlad as well. I'm far from Wilder's biggest fan and I want a Fury win more than anyone, but all things considered, this is the toughest test of his career up to this point. Maybe I only see it this way because I was adamant Fury was going to take the crown from Wlad and saw more in him than others did before that win.

For the record I'd still favour the Fury from the Wlad fight, but that would not be a foregone conclusion. Considering Fury's lifestyle choices since that victory, I think this is one step to far for him. We'll see though, ultimately none of us no exactly how it's going down, but for anyone to have any confidence in there pick seems odd to me. It's one of them fights where people are predicting the end result without clarity, but in reality no one is going to bet a severe portion of their own money on this fight because there's way too many ifs, buts and maybes going into it.

One thing that strikes me about Wilder is that he has never really learnt the fundamentals of boxing. For example, he does not know how to properly throw a left jab.Only having the right hand may not be enough at the elite level.
