Saturday: Alfredo Angulo Vs. Joseph Gomez - Angulo KO ( Rd 2 ) Notes: Angulo's comeback fight, he hasn't fought since last year. Angulo is a young and entertaining fighter with great knockout power. Joseph Gomez is unknown pretty much. This seems to be a warm up fight for Angulo against a Journeyman ( 17-5-1 ). Angulo should finish him early, round 2. Fernando Montiel Vs. Alvaro Perez - Montiel TKO ( RD 4 ) Perez is Montiel's second fight since the brutal KO he received from Nonito Donaire, in his last fight Montiel scored a 3rd round knockout with a brutal body shot early in the round verses Nehomar Cermeno, who is about on the same level as Alvaro Perez. So I predict Montiel gets a TKO in the middle of the fight, Round 4-5. Friday: Demetrius Andrade Vs. Grady Brewer Grady Brewer UD Notes: Grady Brewer is 40 but is still a pretty good fighter, not great but pretty good, he has some good wins. This is a mismatch, Andrade has been fighting young prospects only. He has been asked to step up in competition. But this is a big step, too big, Grady Brewer has more experiance then Andrade and Andrade should have taken smaller steps. The only reason he had to do this is because the fighters in the main event canceled and this fight is now the main event, I think thats a shame, they will put Andrade through hell taking a huge step up, and likely loosing. David Diaz Vs. Hank Lundy David Diaz TKO ( RD 8 ) Notes: I think Diaz is a good fighter, the fight with Erik Morales was close, and that was one of my favorites of his. Diaz is aging ( 34 ) and has a few good wins on his record, and is a former lightweight titleholder. But I think he will never be a force in the lightweight division again, I haven't seen nearly enough of Lundy to say that he'll win. Just from what I know about Diaz, I see him winning by late TKO, maybe UD. Mike Perez vs. Miguel Rodriguez Mike Perez KO ( RD 2 ) Notes: I never saw Miguel Rodriguez, But he only fought ten fights and lost 3. Mike Perez I saw fight a couple times live and one recently to see how he fights. He is 13-0-1. Perez just fought Ira Terry and won by a great third round TKO, a fighter with an ok record 24-4-0 at the time, so a win like that proves that he can fight well, and will beat a basic prospect who is on a two fight loosing streak. Eddie Gomez Vs. Marcus Hall. Gomez KO ( RD 1 ) Notes: I actually think I saw Gomez fight once a while ago once, he looks like a good fighter, he fought 5 fights and won all of them. He may or may not have future potential. We cannot say that for at least 12 fights or so. Never saw Hall. He has a 5-3-0 record and I doubt will win. Gomez scraps him. Matthew Hatton vs Andrei Abramenka. Hatton UD Notes: I only saw Matthew fight once and wasn't impressed. verses Canelo. He was bet easily. Ricky was 100x better. But, Abramenka is young and still a prospect. He'll loose to Hatton but I doubt he KO's him or anything. Thanks for reading, Slice
I agree with most of those picks. I do think Andrade is going to win though (although I wasn't that impressed in his last fight, call it a hunch) and I think Lundy is going to take a UD (that one is all about rooting for a Philly fighter though as Diaz has faced much better comp).
Id love to see Brewer win, and im not too impressed with Andrade so far, but I think its a fight that Andrade will look good in. Andrade punches straighter and much faster and his legs are good enough to keep him out of harms way. This should be a fight where youth and athleticism does beat toughness and experience. Then again, the way things have been going for prospects lately, nothing is shocking or surprising.
