As most of us already know, these guys are meeting again for the second time on Saturday. If you saw their first bout, then you know these men battled it out like true warriors. For me, it was probably the best fight that I saw in 2009, and one of the best in a long time period.

Does anyone think that these guys can duplicate that incredible first performance? Do any of you guys like one more than the other in the rematch?

    Thoughts.

The first fight was brilliant. I had Martinez winning that one.

But unfortunately I don't see them creating the same excitement this time round. I think the two will be more aware of each other's strengths, and will be slightly more cagey. Based on form and skill, I take Martinez by a decision in a fairly entertaining affair.

Good points. I don't know if these guys want to put themselves through the same grueling ordeal that they did the last time, and hence may be more cautious the second time around, like you say. I personally felt that the first match could have been ruled a draw, but I don't have a problem with anyone who gave it to either man.

I got Sergio winning a UD in a very competitive fight.

I agree with the above post.
It wont be as grueling as the first one. I think Martinez will fight him the same way he fought Pavlik. He is going to give PW angles and this time the difference in class will be more apparent since i dont think PW will want to trade with Martinez. He showed in the Cintron fight he doesnt want to get hit as much anymore and that would be a huge mistake against Martinez since i believe that is his best chance to go all out and overwhelm him.

Martinez by 8th round TKO if PW gets ballsy otherwise by wide UD if he decides to box with him.

I cant wait for this one. THis is the fight we all should have been talking about for November.

Had Williams winning the first one, but I feel he doesn't really adapt, just comes in and throws as many punches as possible, which got exposed by Cintron's countering in his last outing.

This time around, Martinez will out-counter and KO Williams in the late rounds, unless he has somehow learnt to fix the holes in his game, then it'll go to a decision but still lose.

By that do you mean the Quintana fight? Thats the only rematch i can remember from him and he was actually getting outboxed for the majority of taht first round. He just happened to catch Quintana with a big shot. Quintana does not really have the greatest chin either.

Same. Should be fun, although probably not as good as the first. Definitely looking forward to it tho!

I agree with your assessment. It was the FOTY of '09 for me as well and, when the 'November to Remember' was announced, this was the fight that had the biggest 'Wow' factor for me.

As has been mentioned in other comments, the reason it's one of the very best fights (on paper, at least) is that anything could happen: KO's for either at any point; Points win for either; or a draw.

That's also what makes it really hard to analyze, though. Unlike the unbalanced showpieces of last weekend, you just don't know what's going to happen. It could last 50 seconds or outstrip last year's fight for closeness.

The other trouble is that I like both of these fighters. If someone put a gun to my head and forced me to pick one, I'd probably say 'Martinez', close decision, on the basis that he's a genuinely good counterpuncher and has already quarter-figured-out Williams once. But then PWill might do a Quintana and blow him out quickly. Or it might just be a boring chess game now that they know what they're dealing with. The thing is, I doubt Paul stops throwing -- that's pretty much his whole style -- which will give Martinez the opportunity to counter, so I'm optimistic the chess-match won't happen, or won't last for more than a round or two if it does. They both know it's one of the biggest fights of their careers thus far, so who knows??

I wish it was getting more love, though. We've got pages and pages of people talking about a one-sided Pac beatdown that the majority of people called months in advance, and a genuinely pick-'em fight which is a rematch of a classic isn't getting much at all. I'm hoping it'll pick up on wednesday or thursday when most of the Pac spooge has been cleaned up.

Martinez takes this. I had Martinez the winner of their first fight. I'm choosing Martinez to win this one as well. Martinez by UD.

    Good post.

That's an awesome avatar by the way. Was that taken at a hall of fame convention or something?
