Since I'll be starting to do the rankings next month, I figuted I'd get up a preliminary ballot, overall, so that way I can see if anyone has comments or if there are people I'm blatantly missing or overrating. Some of the fighters, especially at the lower classes, I haven't seen much, so any input would be appreciated. I'll post in a few parts, since it's pretty long.

    SMW:
    1. Joe Calzaghe
    2. Mikkel Kessler
    3. Anthony Mundine
    4. Lucian Bute
    5. Jeff Lacy
    6. Alejandro Berrio
    7. Carl Froch
    8. Markus Beyer
    9. Sakio Bika
    10. Jean Pascal

Allan Green is out for me until he can come back with a healthy fight; in the meantime, I don’t believe he’ll be able to compete anymore after his surgery. Inkin and Braehmer haven’t beaten anyone who didn’t have an inflated record. Jean Paul Mendy was also in the consideration set, but I want to see him step up his level of competition. I had him beating Hanshaw, however.

    MW:

    C: Kelly Pavlik
    1. Arthur Abraham
    2. Winky Wright
    3. Jermain Taylor
(Cory Spinks, if he’s rated here)
    4. Felix Sturm
    5. Edison Miranda
    6. Roman Karmazin
    7. Sebastian Sylvester
    8. Khoren Gevor
    9. Raymond Joval
    10. Mariano Carrera
    (Ouma, if he’s rated here)

I have Spkins at JMW, otherwise he’d be #4. I haven’t seen much Asikainen, but it seems to me that he has little going for him other than a KO of Sylvester when he was behind on the cards. I don’t think Ouma can compete at this weight, as he looked lethargic with the extra poundage against Taylor. I don’t want to reward Carrera for a win where he failed a post-fight drug test, and Castellejo is halfway shot anyway.

    JMW:
    1. Cory Spinks
    2. Oscar De La Hoya
    3. Sergei Dzinziruk
(Roman Karmazin, if he’s rated here)
    4. Vernon Forrest
    5. Joachim Alcine
(Kassim Ouma, if he’s rated here)
    6. Daniel Santos
    7. Joel Julio
    8. Ermoselle Albert
    9. Ike Quartey
    10. Michelle Piccirillo

I’m assuming Julio stays at 154 like his camp has leaked out. He hasn’t made weight at 147 for several fights anyway. It’s not that I like him that much, it’s that this weight class is that weak. It’s sad when a guy who hasn’t won in 2 years is in the top 10 (although I do think he beat Forrest). If Mayorga had been eligible, he would have made the list as well.

    WW:
    C: Floyd Mayweather
    1. Miguel Cotto
    2. Shane Mosley
    3. Paul Williams
    4. Kermit Cintron
    5. Antonio Margarito
    6. Joshua Clottey
    7. Luis Collazo
    8. Carlos Quintana
    9. Andre Berto
    10. Zab Judah

    Assuming Oktay Urkal stays retired.

    LWW:
    C: Ricky Hatton
    1. Junior Witter
    2. Ricardo Torres
    3. Paulie Malignaggi
    4. Herman Ngoudjo
    5. Vivian Harris
    6. Jose Luis Castillo
    7. Steve Forbes
    8. Gavin Rees
    9. Kendall Holt
    10. Andreas Kotelnik

I’m giving Forbes credit for clearly beating DHop here. I’m also giving Holt a little bit of credit for the tough conditions in the Torres fight, although I didn’t see him get hit with a can or his foot get pulled in the video.
