Dude he won most of the rounds clear and made Collazo tuck his nuts and quit so that's pretty impressive. He got hurt and tagged hard for 30 seconds. Cool? As far as him getting walked down that was not the case. He was pressured start to finish and moving backward, yes. But that just goes to show that for some reason Thurman has a reputation among fans and media that doesn't exactly fit with reality the way I'm seeing it. I like him a good bit and I think he's a good fighter but I don't see anything too special as of yet. If he fought everyone in the top 10 at WW, he'd win some and lose some.

EDIT: "but I don't see anything too special as of yet" specifically with recent super out of control hype going into his last three fights

T'is true. I find it odd that he came out of the gate pushing the action, and at one point (maybe the 3rd?)he just started letting Collazo bring it to him. That was before the body shot.

That cut over Collazo's right eye did not seem THAT bad, although it was dripping blood into his eye, per Tessitore's commentary. Still, Collazo was fighting with his right eye wide open, and the swelling associated with the cut was relatively minor, so I would have thought a good cutman could have gotten it under control. Plus it wasn't like the fight's outcome was a foregone conclusion, as I had Thurman winning the fight 68-65 at that point, giving Collazo the 5th and 6th rounds, and Collazo had been competitive in the 7th round, so he still had a fighting chance. But after the 7th round, Collazo sure didn't seem interested in making sure the fight continued. Maybe as RSBonos said in this thread, he mistakenly thought he could get the fight to a technical decision. But him saying in his corner that he couldn't see when his right eye was wide open? And saying "Better safe than sorry" in the postfight interview? Not a good look at all. Collazo's mother's expression when the fight was stopped said it all, she couldn't understand why the fight was over. When your own mother thinks you should continue the fight, you should darned well continue the fight!!! As for Thurman, I'm not ready to say his potential has been diminished by this fight. However, the last time I think he was truly dynamic in a fight was when he stopped Soto Karass in December 2013. But even more than that, when you look at his fight record, and see his opposition to date (especially as Guerrero was obviously already on the downside when he fought Thurman), you realize he needs to start ramping up not only his performances, but more importantly his opposition, so that he has a chance to live up to all the hype.

You either rate a past it Collazo waaaayyyy too high to be impressed that Thurman was winning ugly against him, or are a really big Thurman fan trying to fool yourself into thinking this wasn't a bad performance.

This was not a good performance, period. Was it the end of the world? Of course not. He got the W. But whether you like it or not this was supposed to be a showcase fight, and Collazo was being fed to Thurman, and it turned into an ugly win.

And yes lol, Thurman was getting walked down in many spots. He did his fair share of decent boxing off the backfoot, but there were plenty of times he was literally being walked down and countered, if you couldn't see that then it explains why you don't think this was a bad showing.

Collazo was +2500.... Thurman was supposed to dominate him

If this was against Collazo of 8 years ago, then you could be talking about moral victories.

I like Thurman, but hes got a lot of work to do if he wants to compete at the world level, and a big mistake him and his team can make tonight is to sit back and think this was a good performance for him.

No room for these kinds of posts. You beat Collazo like Khan did. Thurman got nowhere near that and didn't even drop Collazo. Collazo was coming on strong at the end.

I didn't realize nonito made that post, thought it was the guy I had replied to earlier and made my post from the response of him thinking it was a good performance  Sorry Nonito. Half my post doesn't pertain to you or the post you made.

I agree he wins some loses some against the top 10, though Id lean towards him losing more then he wins at this point.

I like him too, though hes not the fighter hes being billed as and his fans thinks he is, hes a solid fighter and one Ill be rooting for to improve.

No. He's the best test out there for Mayweather of the present crop in Mayweather's weight range, without having to climb up to middleweight.

    It was me :hi:

Surviving this liver shot is quite impressive actually. And I think people are overreacting A LOT. I'm not fan of thurman, but people here has no measure at all. Or you are god, or you are ****. That's not true, thurman won fair and square and survived a pretty bad situation that could have made many others to kiss the canvas.

That's all, obviously it's not the best performance ever, but too much overreaction.

Umm... there are guys named Brook and Bradley hanging around. Seriously, you think Thurman is a test? No, he doesn't win 1 round. I've said it before this fight. Thurman isn't as good as people think, and he sure as hell isn't a KO-artist.

Not hating on Thurman but I think Con man would give a better test than Thurman at this point

I didn't say a thing about him threatening Mayweather because of being a "KO artist", did I?

    He's on par with Brook.

Mayweather would easily outbox Bradley. (styles make fights; I think Bradley rates well h2h against Brook or Thurman and coul even beat either of them)

Nah. The myth of Khan bothering Mayweather is played out.
