While I understand this universal law you are referring too, I disagree with your rational for putting the PBC in same category as UFC:

-First off, until the heavyweights are the biggest names in the sport, boxing will not surpass NBA, MLB & NFL, which means it will always be somewhat popular but not the top dog of all major sports. For a while UFC was everywhere literally 24/7, hence why it burnt out or at least drastically cooled down.

    - The UFC was showing PPV (albeit not very expensive) fights literally every 2 weeks a few years back

    - In addition to the hectic schedule, UFC fighters who lost the previous monthj, were fighting for titles 2 months later. There were only a few all around Gracie type skilled fighters. Most of the fighters hadn't proved themselves

    - Boxing has been around for centuries, while the sport of MMA has been around in Brazil longer than the USA, it is still relatively newer combat sport, which hadn't went through the growing phase (like boxing in the early years, prior to going HAM on network television

    - Boxing has several entities, promoters, etc... who are able to operate in a capital market. The UFC is ran by one person, which means there is less chance to expand and keeps only the top 5% of fighters at the public eye.

    - UFC fighters get pad about 15% of what average boxers receive. Hence the reason why a lot of UFC fighters from even 5 years ago are getting to other sports.

I could go on and on, but the point is boxing is truly a sweet science in which a champion has had to endure years/decades of ground work to get to where they are. UFC on the other hand, (which some exceptions obviously), allows WWE participants a la Brock Lesnar to fight a few fights and then become a champion. This lessens the prestige of the sport and turns it more into a show than a display of skills overall.

    Just my thoughts

its hard to say if it will fail or succeed, early signs don't look great to me. Comparing it to other sports, football (soccer) went to pay TV at a similar time to boxing in the UK, at that time in the early 1990's big boxing fights like benn vs eubank were getting 15+ million viewers. Since then foot***** popularity has increased significantly, whilst boxing has declined despite similar TV deals. The law of diminishing utility doesn't seem to apply with premiership football.

the amount of money being paid to fighters on the cards seems disproportionate to the number of TV viewers and people paying to watch the fight Its hard to see how this will make money in the long term without a big increase in viewers / interest

First Broner-Molina stinks up the joint, thankfully saved by Thurman-Guerrero.

Now Lee-Quillin Draw, which I'm happy about, but casual fans probably aren't.
And even though Garcia-Peterson was a close fight, and I'm not completely angry about Swift's razor close win, to most regular fans that looked like a massive robbery.

:roll:Rousing great start for PBC on NBC so far.

looking at the purses last night, nearly $3mil for garica/Peterson, $1mil for quillan vs lee. + the other undercards. I can't see the gate receipts or advertising covering this. Which means its going to run out of money sooner or later. That will be the main reason for it failing if it does.

Live sports are very important in today's world for cable/satellite companies. So far the ratings are ok, they won't get worse.

They WILL get worse if they keep putting on bouts that fail to attract customers back
