I notice how most of those wanting to big up Rigondeaux as this amazing once-in-a-lifetime talent happen to hail from the British Isles. :think

Possible logic behind cleverly concealed agenda:

Rigondeaux must be a beast to have beaten Cordoba, because Cordoba is awesome! (helps make Dunne's win look pretty damn good, innit? - and Rigo didn't even stop him!!)

...and to have dealt that fate to Casey! :scaredas: Nobody does that to Casey!

A good many Americans - and obviously just about all Cubans - are tipping Rigondeaux with confidence, but the Brits & Irish alone seem to be right up there with the Cubans themselves in unilaterally thinking this is some enormous mismatch and proclaiming Rigondeaux to be "several levels above".

Don't get me wrong. I don't think Ramos is fit to conquer the world, and I do have the Jackal as the favorite here. There just isn't all that much between them IMO. There's likely a bit of Rigondeaux overrating and Ramos underrating (due mostly to the limited sampling of the Shimoda performance by itself) burning the candle at both ends here.

Nah I never rated Dunne or Casey.

Ramos is just dreadful.

 

Mate zero English, Scottish and wales posters rate Casey or Dunne, and thats a fact.


I rate rigondeaux because he is a serious talent, and I must admit ever since the 3 Cubano prospects have come to Eire, ive found myself become more and more interested in Cuban boxing. rigo will dominate ramos for sure:yep

 

This. I couldn't believe I was actually reading a post like that in the British forum. If you want to make the point about not being a regular here truly concrete say there's ''hidden agenda'' from people trying to big up Irish fighters.

 

I do think he's failed the grade as a vetted world-class candidate, but he was at one time in the not too distant past (basically up until his erectile dysfunction for most of the night against Shimoda) a prospect generating a good deal of buzz. That wasn't for no reason. He had and has some upside, and much of it is along the same lines as Rigondeaux's own (hand speed, pop, body punching, athleticism) although obviously most all to a lesser degree. And he does have flaws - but then so again does Rigondeaux. Guillermo is far from the finished article, even with his lifetime of experience in the AM's and the brief experiment of getting some fine-tuning from Roach.

I do think Rigondeaux is better overall, as he's more naturally talented and edges Ramos across the board in just about every category (balanced against Ramos being merely younger & physically bigger). I just don't think they're all that dissimilar in their styles or the types of things they do and don't do well. If Ramos is dreadful, then Rigondeaux has to be "just OK". If Rigondeaux is to be accepted as amazing, then Ramos has to be decent. Any way you have it, they are only so far apart.

On a ten scale, they can respectively rate 3 and 6...or they can rate 5 and 8. 4 and 7. 3 and 6. 1 and 4. 6 and 9. Et cetera. Not freaking 2 and 10, as it's being made out across the board (in the General, but especially so here... and in threads populated by Cubans).

 

Admittedly I've only seen him against Shimoda.

 

I've seen four Ramos fights, and I still see him offering little to truly trouble Rigondeaux with.

And I'm not even a big fan of Willie Casey.

 

I'm Scottish and like Dunne and Casey - doesn't mean I think they were amazing. They've got nothing to do with why I think Rigo stops Rico. Anything Rico can do, Rigo can do better. Rigo's quicker and a more precise puncher than Shimoda, who made Rico look out of his depth until the stoppage.

I don't think Ramos is abysmal, I just don't think he's got more than a puncher's chance against the elite at 122lbs. Sometimes that's enough though.

 

Actually, reports of 3am UK start time were wrong.

It isn't until 4am on Premier.

So they're only showing the same coverage as Showtime, none additional.
