Prescott vs. Cayo in talks; Who you got?

This is a fight I'd love to see. Both are fighters I have a soft spot for, even though at this present time they just crack inside the top 20 or 15 at best. They both have aesthetically pleasing styles and give excitement with faced with adversity.

Cayo is someone I first saw in the Maidana fight. Even though his guard was flawed and let him down against Marcos, his movement and instinctual upper body movement showed me he had talent. His movement was fluid and I appreciated what he could do with what he had. In the Peterson fight, he exceeded my expectation. That fight was evenly fought up until the end, and both the outside and inside exchanges were great work for both men. I was hoping Cayo would bounce back, but the loss to Campbell was a shock to me that really set him back. He's had a string of wins in the DR since, we'll see what he has to offer at this stage in his career.

Prescott is someone I backed since seeing him rework his style (and not just because he's Colombian). The clinic he put on against Jargal showed a transition from slugger to boxer. He still trades from time to time and focuses early on his power punches, but if you're not out early, he'll pump the jab and throw combinations at range while controlling the center. His performance even backed me to pick him against McCloskey, in disagreement with most others, but most afterward felt he deserved the decision. I supported him against Alvarado and knew at the very least he'd give him a tough fight, if not win outright, and though he got lulled into an inside fight to his detriment, it was clear he was comfortably ahead at the time of the stoppage. He seems to gas late and become offensively stagnant, there's been talk of weight problems at 140 before, but his stylistic base and power make for good viewing. If he can work his way up the 140 ladder, we could be in for some great fights.

If he survives the early rounds, he may just survive a losing decision. Prescott often seems to stop trying to stop you outright after the 3rd or 4th.

 

Word, glad I'm not the only one who sees his potential. He's come a long way since making Khan do the Bambi.
