He just did an announcement on his Facebook. "We will be holding a press conference in Copenhagen on Wednesday to announce a decision on my career." He just did an announcement on his Facebook. "We will be holding a press conference in Copenhagen on Wednesday to announce a decision on my career." I did a google translation on the danish website. It says that experts think it's either retirement or a second fight against Ward, where Kessler is believed to make 20 millions. Maybe a danish buddy could help me out. Thats the source: http://ekstrabladet.dk/sport/anden_sport/boksning/article2276070.ece
He hasn't fought for almost a year after the Froch fight. There are already a lot of rumors around, that he was retired, so it could be his retirement speech. Let's not hope so.
Fingers crossed he is gonna fight Ward again (outside of Oakland) or maybe Abraham. He has become a father recently, and has stated before that he would retire when he was gonna start a family. Seems a bit odd to make the announcement after a year of inactivity, though.
Well, here is to hoping it is a retirement announcement. Kessler has given us a lot to marvel over for years now. Good career. He's had some injuries, inactivities, and the wars with Froch in recent times so it feels right for him to walk away now. There is no way he is going to announce a rematch with Ward. I'd be stunned given that Ward just got a verdict last week, a losing one, in his lawsuit to break free from Goosen as his promoter. If it isn't retirement, please announce one final fight in Denmark to walk away, against a fringe contender to go out on a high note.
I'd like to see him beat Abraham, and then retire with a belt. He deserves to out with a good win and as a champion.
I hope the very best for Kessler but he should retire at this stage of his career. He's pretty much done in my opinion despite his gutsy performance against Froch in the rematch. I wouldn't like to see him drop the rising fighters he would have beaten in his prime. As much as it saddens me to say this but he's better off retiring.
Kessler needs to retire. His skills will never be good enough to beat Ward. He even loss to Froch and has been on a losing streak.
If you asked me to handicap this, Retirement - 2/5 odds Froch rubber match - 8/13 Move to 175lbs (chasing Ward rematch) - 10/11 Anything else - 9/4
With or without Ward who's going to pay Kessler, a guy who is clearly 4-5th in the SMW division $20M to fight, even in Denmark?
He is most likely retiring. He said he would as soon as he became a father and unlike Hopkins (promising his mother on her deathbed he wouldn't box past the age of 40 - and going another decade :-() seems like a man of his word. This will be his farewell, is my guess. Otherwise, if he is marching on, it will be for legacy and the fans - and that means settling the rivalry with Froch. Going after Ward is nothing but a fool's errand and money grab, and Kessler has always comported himself with more integrity than resorting to stuff like that.
Rematching Froch would be an easy payday for them both, but I can't see where they would be paid big money for a rematch. I agree. I don't believe Kessler wants to rematch Ward at any weight, unless it is in Denmark where they could gross the most $$$. But Ward turned down their offer saying they wanted to pay him peanuts. I think Kessler is going to call it a day, or maybe a surprise with a Kessler-Dirrell anouncement for Dirrell's 1st come back fight. Right. I'm dreaming.atsch
Kessler at LHW? Naw, I can't see that. Even if he got lucky he'd have to fend off the wolves positioning for unification. If he does announce future fight(s), I think they will be at SMW. Ward said he wasn't moving up either and will stay at SMW. I think Kessler may be a little envious of Froch's upcoming big rematch with Grove and probably reacting to that.
