Hadn't thought of that! Yeah, that would be a huge event. Most lucrative in Germany. Two guys who at different points had top 5 jabs in the game...both of them past their peak and both having compensated for that by developing more of a brawling style. That could actually be fun. Nice and safe for Kessler, as well - not as likely to blow up in his face and get him badly hurt as rubber-matching Froch or going after Kovalev.
Got the impression he was hoping for a Groves win in the upcoming fight. Mentioned that it went well sparring with him last year.
what has sturm done in the last 15 years that makes you thi k he would take this fight? he wouldn't even fight his countryman (Abraham) or golovkin when they were in the same stable it's not exactly a secret why he was put on this earth
At this point at the end of his career I think Kessler is more interested in earnings over records, and Sturm may be interested in record over earnings. After Sturm-Soliman, I don't see why Sturm would not be interested in facing Kessler. I mean, who ever you think about Sturm he has a much better name and resume than GGG for maximizing the revenue side.
that's my point sturm is all about revenue, but he's a joke outside germany he relies on beercan fans not knowing the difference between a genuine world champion and a paper one who is milking the masses Kessler has earnt a free license to fight whoever he wants IMO but sturm has rejected Abraham and golovkin, while losing to a 40 year old castellejo (sp?) and geale - because he 'misjudged' their ability sturm only has a 'name' at MW because he's held a paper belt for so long. but he's held it for financial purposes only golovkin is in the US and with network backing because he wants to bang
I agree & looks bad for Ward. I understand his intelligent approach to boxing, but now is his best chance to become an undisputed champion, even if its momentarily...no excuse other than Uncertainty in his own superiority :nono
Sadly, at this point in time, I have to agree. The stars seems to be aligned for Ward to slip into the LHW ranks and make some great fights as well as be in great position to snatch the LHW belts currently being held by Hopkins, Kovalev and Stevenson, and I think the timing is right so that he won't even have to match up with Hopkins. If Hopkins should defeat Stevenson, he may actually vacate the titles and retire. With Hopkins retired, that would leave Kovalev, Stevenson and Ward in a box off for an direct path to undisputed. I see nothing that is comparable to this for Ward at SMW.
I'd be interested in watching him fight anyone at SMW except Ward (Wouldn't be competitive or entertaining).
Not a bad idea, really. :think Kessler ought to still have enough left for Bika, going by how the Scorpion looked (improved skills, but still beatable) against Sjekloca, Periban & Dirrell.
Looks like he's after one last mega fight in Denmark. At SMW that would be either Froch, Ward, Abraham or possibly Groves if he manages to defeat Froch. As for "moving a little down", could it be for Golovkin? It's highly unlikely that Sturm would fight Kessler, and those are the only two middleweights with a high recognition in Europe.
