Just to announce that a press conference will be taking place today 18/8/10 at 12.30 in Derry to announce Paul McCloskey's next defence of his european light-welterweight title

His opponent will be Motherwell Scotland's Barry Morrison. The fight will take place in Derry on October 2nd. Any ideas or opinions on how this one will go , both talented both tough both looking to progress their careers.

I was originally leaving this announcement to "Maka" as he is the usual spokesperson for the Morrison household, however thought I would "Step in" as it appeared he was going to take too long and I wanted everyone at ESB to get "An exclusive" :deal

Sounds like McCloskeys team want to get an easy fight out of the way before defending agaisnt Lauri again.

I wonder whats happening with the sky dates.

October 2nd you have McCloskey vs Morrison and Froch vs Abraham, also the possibility of Kyrakosian vs Foster Jnr

The Foster fight is also rumoured for October 16th, which is the same day as Maloneys Webb vs Concepcion bill.

Think they may have made the wrong choice in relation to an "easy fight" think there would have been lots "easier" out there - can you please just point out what you mean and how much you have seen of Barry Morrison ?
I have seen almost all of his bouts since his first amateur fight and I can't ever recall anyone thinking that he was "easy". He is a fully committed individual who would be hard work for most light-welters out there - think you were being quite disrespectful,:nono however everone is entitled to their opinion.

This is a boxing forum....if you wanna here only wonderful happy things about Barry Morrison, setup www.barrymorrison.com and create a forum.

I am not doubting his commitment or work rate, clearly he is a friend of yours, but he doesn't deserve a European title shot and this fight is a mismatch.

I have seen his fights with Daws (twice), Barnes and Lynnes.

I am dismissive of any fighter that steps up in class when there a) not ready, b) don't deserve it.

The future of Scottish Boxing is Paul Appleby, the kid is class and will win world titles.

Don't be such an immature knob. whilst I appreciate everyone is entitled to an opinion I do not understand where you are coming from - "doesn't deserve a European Title Shot" why ????. He has been working consistently at a high level and could have achieved much more if circumstances were slightly different. I am not here to make excuses, however I firmly believe he has worked his own way into the frame and that he has as much chance as anyone else in Britain at this time.

You will have to work on your sarcasm, as the initial statement just makes you sound like a complete tosser - as for the mismatch statement - this may well turn out to be true however based upon you watching four fights is a **** poor assumption to make and may come back to haunt you.

yeh he needs to impress after last time out.

If Olusegun wins his eliminator, its likley Alexander/Braldey would vacate rather than fight him. So it would be Olusegun vs McCloskey for the vacant title.

Good Luck with prediction - please do not sell yourself short with underestimating the opponent:hi: I'm sure mr McCloskey won't be doing that.

How else would I see his fight? They are his 12 round title fights so the other fights he has has give you no further indication of what level he is....which is below average domestic level.

He lost his last title fight via stoppage. He previously lost to a guy McCloskey dominated and stopped.

Morrison is the lowest ranked fighter by the EBU (19) which means there 18 boxers currently more deserving of the fight. Theres 7 British fighters that deserve a European title fight ahead of Morrison.
