In recent years we've seen a lot of comments and talk about "shoulder rolls" and "philly shells",variations on shoulder blocking stances with a low lead and a right hand to parry. We've seen this stance a lot of times in boxing history with a few variants, Mayweather Jr., Toney, Moore,Tiger Jack Fox, Chocolate, etc etc. Most of the guys using this stance are back foot counterpunchers and defensive cuties. But there are a few i've noticed that pressure their way in and attack out of these stances very effectively. Dempsey, Armstrong, and even Hearns to an extent.

What other come forward fighters use this style/stance to great effect?

Qawi is probably the premiere example. Henry Hank is another.

    Buster Drayton

Archie Moore would count here as well imo.

Bennie Briscoe has an odd way of defending himself while coming in. Don't know what I would call his guard but it worked for him. The only time it didn't is when the only man to stop him(Valdez) caught him in the second fight.

I know I've seen LaMotta do this more than once.
