Jab, jab, jab. Tight defence. Jab solidly and maintain distance with good footwork.

i can handle pressure from guys my own weight and level no problem. I just do a lot of angling off and time them as they come in with hard shots

When sparring someone who has 15-20kg on more on you, that is when it gets hard

yup jab, it shouldnt stop, should be machine like some lesser or more regarding power.feint the jab to the body out of range follow with over hand right, left hook to body/head for example. Even if its not a nice hook you can use to hold as you are close. As said before 1-2 but i would go with a jab right jab outa danger, in bang bang bang out. Regarding ropes etc.. grab him and pivot for example if you are in the corner...now he is in the corner.

Dont stop jabbing, as Chico said, its your rudder

    Good Luck :good

I was left hand orthodox and ALWAYS noticed i went anti clockwise, well generally, rather than clockwise like most seem to do (2x orthodox) I knew about the Southpaw go left stuff, dont think i fought or sparred one lol. As you said , mixing it ups most important

There's a lot of options. Side to side movement, with a dose of jabs and uppercuts, use the clinch when you are stuck. If you are a slugger this style is gravy for you, just lay him out.

The absolute best weapon against a pressure fighter is to have power. Landing hard power shots will discourage them from walking in with pressure.

If you don't have big power, my advice would be:

A: tight defense on the inside, move your head from side-to-side and try to pick spots to counter with more precise shots through the hailstorm of punches.

or B: If their punches are light and you are in excellent condition, give their own dose of medicine, outwork them at their own game.

Lateral movement doesn't often work against a swarmer because they just follow you and are willing to eat your jab to fall in and outwork you with volume on the inside.

Two good examples of how to work on an extreme pressure fighter from in close would be
James Toney/Charles Williams and Troy Dorsey/Jorge Paez

you jab the **** out of him. if your backing up you jab, if you move to the side you jab. He's pressuring you, you jab and walks into your jab. you jab and then move , whn he cuts you off you jab again. Keep that fist in his face, and jab again, then when he getts use to that and timing that, you set up your other punches and then you have him playing your game not his.
