I'm still not convinced that this fought wouldn't be a draw.

Floyd does throw one punch at a time but theres so much behind his punches.

Floyd is also an underrated body puncher.

Sweet Pea has a great jab ... but what about the defense fellas who's really going to land.

What about the body, head, then back to body combo that Floyd throws?

Who's to say that if sweet pea ducked real low that Floyd wouldn't hit him with one of those hybrid uppercut type right hands.

Daman -- this is totally different from a fight with a SRL - who's defense was his offense and he took alot of blows at will. I think that Leonard though great, was a bit overrated when you consider his overall skill. Yeah he was fast and he threw alot of punches. But he took alot of punishment.

    :huh

Floyd may land the punch once or twice, but Pea is not just going to be standing there trying to avoid punches he will move his feet if he thinks that standing still wont let him avoid the punches and he will not just be backed up and not throwing back.

Pea's jab would be in Floyd's face a great deal of the time, Pea also loads up and throws combinations better inside. :good

You mean the body, head, and body combo that Floyd threw on human punching bag Arturo Gatti? Yeah, I'm sure he'd give Whitaker fits with those.

What uppercut right hands? Those are mostly lefts that Floyd throws. Either way, what the hell does it matter if he does land one of those at one point? The styles matchup is still LARGELY in favor of Whitaker, on every front. You're throwing out a hypothetical of Floyd landing a single uppercut that he landed on Gatti and taking it into the context of a fight between himself and Whitaker.

There would be no draw. Floyd had fits early on with Judah, takes time to adapt to any top fighter he faces, and has never faced anyone nearly as good as Whitaker, or as consistent, or who presents the stylistic problems that he does.

He'd still beat both Whitaker and Floyd at 147.

:huh Fighters do not have to be defensive masters to be good boxers.

Leonard would beat everybody ever at 147 bar Ray Robinson even then it is a close fight :good

Good point but i've only seen Floyd fight on the inside 2 times. (Chavez & Hatton)

Pernell's jab was great and was underrated. He busted Trinidad's nose with it.

Okay whats the outcome if sweat pea is the aggressor and Floyd's the counter puncher?

Didy read my first post? That is likely how the fight would play out, given the styles of the two fighters. That is one of the reasons Pea holds the advantage here.

Wouldnt happen as it is not the best way for Pea to win this fight altough he was very good at avoiding punches when moving forward.

I disagree, I think that Pea would have basically boxed in the middle of the ring with them both taking turns at being the agressor.

Bro I wrote disreguard that ... I don't even want to touch that topic because i'm not the biggest SRL fan. I put him in the same category as DLH.

For the record SRR was one of the greatest if not the greatest fighters in history.
He won 121 fights before his loss to Jake Lamatta...
    (for the middleweight championship)
Never been stopped and lost the chance to be lightheavy championship because of exaustion.

He was one of the most powerful fighters pound for pound and had that shoulder roll just like Floyd.

Please don't talk about an all time great like that and out of respect I don't know who of any era would beat him. He fought more fights and more rounds than anyone you can name. To say that SRL wouldve beaten him was ridiculous. He got his fame off fighting the same guys different times around.

If he was a defensive fighter - he probably wouldn't have gotten whooped on by Terry Norris, Hector Camacho, and Roberto Duran no matter how old he was.
