Oh and for the record Pernell's drug problems came in the middle of his career when he was crushing guys -- and partying hard afterwards
He was #1 p4p when he fought DLH and was still ranked top #5 afterwards.

"For years he had been pound-for-pound, the best in the world. Many experts believe he has never lost a professional fight. and he's here tonight to prove that he is still pound for pound the best there is, from Norfolk, Virginia, introducing the 5-time world champion ... Pernell "Sweet Pea" Whitaker!"

I remember that as clear as day -- that was his intro against Tito.

He is here to prove that he and he alone is pound for pound, the best in the world. From Cupey Alto, Puerto Rico, the reigning .... defending .... undefeated ... IBF welterweight champion of the world .... Felix .... "Tito" ... Trinidad.

then Whitaker fought flat footed, stalking, no head movement, no pivots, no switching angles, popping that southpaw jab, busting Tito's nose in the first 3 rounds. He caught Tito with some straight rights ... later rounds he knocked sweet pea down ... cornered him and beat him so that Sweet Pea had to hold and take a knee (old school trick to get the ref to break)

To Pea's credit he had suffered a broken jaw around the 6th round and went the distance w/ a broke jaw.

He wasn't fighting like Pea and I didn't expect that out of him. He abandon the jab and why the hell was he fighting flat footed.

    He was 35

He was a shot fighter at that point. His trademark speed and reflexes were eroded, but still he managed to do quite well for the first few rounds.

Best boxing match i've ever seen was McGirt v Whitaker ... perfect boxing, the sweet science at its best. Fudamentals put on display by both fighters and no brawling. Jabs, Rights and Lefts, Hooks and Uppercuts, all on the inside. Slips and ducks -- everything you can imagine.

    Beautiful !!

    Whitaker would confuse Void.

McGirt used to be one of my favorite fighters. It's a shame he had his shoulder surgery too late, it ended his career.

Do you know what the hell you're talking about -- he wasn't shot. He just put on a beautiful display of skills earlier that year against DLH and was to be believed the first legit loss of his career. He came in with a different game plan and it didn't work.

A shot fighter still p4p best in the world? I don't get it ...

Did you see that fight, Pea was 4 rounds up going to the 6th ....

How was he shot and still considered pound 4 pound, one of the best in the world?

    can you please answer that.

You're taking this too personal. And I don't hate Floyd - he's one of the best fighters I have ever seen, period. It's just my opinion that Whitaker was better.

She is a friend, I took her out to dinner last week though. Might develop into something though. Only thing about her is, she's very spoiled. She's use to getting her way with men. Not with me though :nono She told me that turns her on, me not catering to her ever need.

Pernell fought Trinidad 2 years after he faced Oscar. And his speed and superhuman reflexes were a thing of the past. Still a good fighter, but a shell of his former self.
