thank you! that is exactly what I was going to say. Floyd just isn't as good at in fighting. Full Stop. If Floyd came from an earlier era where it was more necessary then maybe he would be. But he's not. So he's a less complete fighter. And Pea would be smart enough to exploit this.
Even when he starts to adapt(though he most certainly would not adapt like he did a B level fighter like Judah) the best he could do is even it up, in which case Pea still takes the decision handily, though it gets closer towards the end.
Honestly, Pea was one of the best counter-punchers in the history of the game. Going low to the body like Floyd did leaves him open for a simple right jab over the top as well.
Definitely, a right jab counter or a right hook counter. I don't see how Floyd could have success with that punch.
These guys aren't far apart in the speed department, if not equal, so just simply saying that he would block and counter is ridiculous.
No, Floyd is an all time great and one of the best fighters I have ever seen. But Pernell was just better (inside and outside).
This is a mythical superfight we're discussing -- There will be counters on both ends and Floyd is strong and bigger built there's no way that Pernell is doing alot of damage on the inside.
Sweet Pea name 5 fights that Floyd has fought on the inside and don't include the fights I mentioned (Hatton & Chavez)
He's only getting countered a lot if he decides to throw the right hand to the body, which would leave him open for a counter shot.
Pernell is better on the inside. Would he be busting the hell out of Floyd? No. But would he be getting the better of him in close? Yes Do you agree that Pernell was the better infighter?
