lol this thread had the potentioal to be brilliant the thing is it is one with so many situations that it is difficult to even express your view because there are at least 50 possible outcomes to the first round. One thing that is certain is that the rythm of the fight will change fluidly as both fighters adjust rapidly to the others actions. Definitely a spiteful game of chess would be on the cards. Not sure if this has being mentioned but what if Mayweather turns southpaw becasue he is capable from that stance although he doesnt use it often there have being phases of fights he has used it.Another thing i would mention is the footwork of both fighters if you look at Mayweather the majority of his movements are backwards or lateral he rarely takes steps forward whereas Whitaker was confortable moving forwards. That may be jumping to conclusions on my behlaf but i think Mayweather doesn't like moving forwards.
man isn't it confusing? I see that as being the best bout ever -- I don't see anyone on either of these two guys caliber in years. I would compare it to Hearns v Leonard minus dramatic ending. I honestly can't see this fight going either way because like many have said even you, the fight would be sooo back and fourth. I don't think either fight will have a consistant rally w/o being comprimised.
So would I. Which means, taking away the dramatic ending, one of them gets badly outboxed(as Hearns was doing to Leonard), in this case it would be Mayweather.
I didn't see that live but when I seen it for the first time I didn't think that Leonard was going to win. That rally at the end was supurb ... Leonard thew like 30 wild ass punches like he was in a street fight.
Are you a PBF hater or something? I could show personal bias, but I respect Whitaker a great deal - if it weren't for the drugs we'd be compare PBF to him.
If i had to guess what would happen it would be Whitaker builds a lead in the early round whilst Mayweather comes to terms with that Jab of Sweet Pea. It is not the jab which is the problem for Pretty Boy it is the movement and angles at which Whitaker manages to create when moving in and moving out from attacks. I would also like to say Sweet Pea is way underestimated by most. The last 8 or 9 rounds is anyones guess one thing i have jus thought is that maybe Mayweather will suffer from overthinking whereas Sweet Pea at times was instinctive but then again by not thinking can cost you the fight as i think this kind of fight is going to be decided on the judges interpretation of one or two of those ultra close rounds.
No, not a hater, I favor him over anyone at 130, but from 135 up, there are many I'd favor over him. I do however, think that there's no way he compares to Pea in the sense of fighting all the best either, as Floyd is much more of a cherry-picker in terms of who he fights than Pea was. Let Floyd fight Cotto, and I'll stop being so critical of his career choices.
How is someone who fights all the best of his era a cherry-picker? DLH is a great in my eyes for the sole fact that he fought everyone, win some, lose some. Anyways, as far as who I think is capable of beating Floyd from 130-147. This is the best Whitaker video i have ever seen. On topic, i would favor Whitaker at lightweight and Mayweather at welter. Whitaker was the better lightweight, and Mayweather was the better welter. Its as simple as that. It would be an interesting chess match that i would have loved to see. I also like Mayweathers power's advantage. His shots would have more effect. Whitakers southpaw jab would cause problems for Floyd. Floyd is also vulnerable for a straight left hand and Whitaker is clearly the better inside fighter. Interesting fight. [yt]PD5rx0OdyDA[/yt]
I didn't know you were talking about all-time.. I'm not going to counter that - thats too much, but you made your point.
Pretty much the most conclusive we're gonna get. With fighters of that class little things will make a difference and the weight is one thing that could tip it in eithers favour. Whitaker and Floyd are thebest fighters in my life time 18yrs i can honestly say that i belive they are the best i can't think of another fighter who posseses that combination of brains and skill since i have being alive.
Its kinda hard to say who would be the better lightweight because that was when Floyd was at his best. He had his high of title fights in one weight class and most title defenses.
