Are there some teachable moments here regarding this southpaw vs Floyd?

    The round starts at 11:53.

I could see some moments in that round transferring to the actual fight.

Floyd would be silly to put on the earmuffs and lay on the ropes like that. Pac doesn't fight flat footed like Ortiz either.

no... aside from Ortiz being a southpaw, i don't expect fight to look similarly

In the first seconds, floyd is teeing off on a stationary Ortiz, who is not throwing at all. It's hard for me to imagine Manny 1. being stationary and 2. allowing Floyd to unleash flurries without doing anything. Manny would be moving out, using more head movement and trading with Floyd, stepping in to counter.

Then Ortiz was able to push Floyd into the ropes, using his size; Manny wouldn't be doing that given he's smaller. Also, Floyd wouldn't stay on the ropes that long, he'll either hold or run away. Manny is a lot more dangerous than Ortiz given his angles, speed and combos. Against Ortiz, Floyd didn't seem to worried to be on the ropes but i guarantee you he will do more to avoid it vs Manny.

most of what i saw here i would not expect to see other than Ortiz being a southpaw and Floyd landing a few occasional pot shots. Everything else would be different.

Oh yeah, definitely. Ortiz sucks. But, Floyd's intention was to walk down Ortiz and was very aggressive. Ortiz was most successful not patiently eating Floyd's shots and corning him(which he did 90% of the fight), but throwing combinations.

No.. the two times Mayweather got pushed back to the ropes was when Ortiz caught him. Once with the right cross and second with the straight left hand. On the other occasions, Mayweather was walking him down or setting a trap in the corner to catch him with that check left hook.

I'm not comparing the two. Ortiz is garbage. But paying attention to Floyd's response to this southpaw with decent hand speed... Floyd was dangerous when Ortiz was throwing single shots. Floyd was eating him alive. Countering everything. But when Ortiz threw combinations, that's when Mayweather covered up and didn't counter.

I think you'd see similar reaction against Pacquiao... which isn't good for Floyd. However, I also think Mayweather will try to impose his size similar to the way he was walking down Ortiz at some points, and it'll come down to which one can impose their will.

You saw how stationary Ortiz was in those first few seconds as Floyd threw punch after punch after punch, I would be shocked to see Pac standing. He would be moving side to side, in/out and willingly exchange with Floyd.

I also definitely see Pac doing more damage if Floyd leans on the ropes, too fast and lethal combos will be unleashed. Floyd will hold him, mark my words.

yes, Flloyd will walk him down but Manny is comfortable when opponents walk him down, watch DLH, Marg and Cotto fights. I do see Floyd landing some rights and check left hooks as he did vs Ortiz, that i do see, but i see Manny doing more than what Ortiz showed - a lot more movement, more countering and more dangerous combos when Floyd is on ropes.
