I like Parker vs Price in the UK. I just read that Duco are aiming to do the first defense in NZ. That frankly pisses me off, they're taking the **** now. They NEED to get him overseas, this is not helping his image at all... nor is it an good for his growth.
What's the point of being a NZ world heavyweight champion if you don't fight there? It's his first defence & Price isn't a no-hoper. He has skills & power. If Parker is pole-axing Pommies they'll get to know who he is whether he's fighting in the UK or not.
"If not for my glass chin I'd be undisputed champ..." said Dave. Yup. Same Will go for Joshua soon also.
All the chatter from Parker's camp before the Ruiz fight was it might be a long time before he fights in NZ again while he holds a belt. Boxing money is in the US and the HW money is in the UK atm. Pity but money talks...
Parker drew 9,000 in NZ to the Ruiz fight & had financial assistance from the Samoan govt to put it on. The big money in the US comes from TV. An afternoon fight in NZ is prime time US. There's plenty of money behind Parker for fights in NZ (and Samoa). They'd be foolish not to take it. And if they want to make big money, Parker needs to keep winning. Another reason to fight in NZ.
I hear you, but all the same, his own management team have said it might be a long time before he fights there again and recognise the big money is overseas. Parker vs Price in NZ would not make him the same kind of money - nowhere near I suspect - as Price vs Parker on a PPV undercard at Wembley in April for example, which I suspect is what they are angling at by making their interest in Parker public. Also opens him up to a whole new market, as boxing fans in the UK have heard of him but he's yet to get a broad appeal. Fighting Price and KOing him in the UK would raise his profile. It's a pity, but NZ isn't a hotbed for boxing.
The quickest way to separate Parker from his title is for him to take fights in his opponents' backyards. All going well, there will come a time when Parker fights in the UK. I don't see David Price being it though. While it's true NZ "isn't a hotbed for boxing", either the money is there to put fights on or it isn't. If Parker can draw 9,000 through the gate, sell PPVs in NZ, get Australian, US & UK tv dollars plus financial support from the Samoan & NZ govts, the money will be there to put fights on in NZ (noting that the NZ govt didn't chip in for the Ruiz fight).
UK, US you can beat Parker wont have any issues at all fighting anywhere. I personally would like to see Parker and Hughie Fury in Furys hometown because Furys undefeated and by Parker taking on his mandatory as his very next fight, is a good look as a champion for Parker. Price is not that good of a victory, even if its a knockout. Fury would be much better IMO.
Fury isn't the mandatory. I think Price will get the fight ahead of Fury because he's willing to fight in NZ.
I think it is a good fight, price is world class , well at least he said he was Then again so does Paul smith hmm Maybe its a Liverpool thing
Yeah I don't rate Price and think Parker would handle him easily. Hughie is a tougher proposition but no one outside relatively hardcore UK boxing fans will have heard of him, although of course they'll recognise the surname. He's nothing like his cousin though, and very down-to-earth. Price has a higher profile in the UK I would argue and Parker would probably have an eye-catching stoppage win against him whereas Hughie's fights are often a bit... well... dull.
Price is desperate for a final payday. Stay busy and hope to god Joshua plucks you as a voluntary, anything above mediocre journeyman is a risk to him at this point.
Yeah thats right. I forgot Haye was the mandatory as his quiet rapid rise keeps suprising me but he is the goods. All the talk of Fury being next put the idea in my head that he was the mandatory. I stand corrected. In regards to Price, that tweet above, thanks to Naki might suggest otherwise. I think thats Barrys wife, not sure. Price they'll see as a win with all respect and they will be looking at the money. Would they get paid more to beat him here in NZ or in the UK and the implications, Im going to assume is their key consideration.
