Price just needs the right trainer

To my mind there should be a minimum head circumference to be allowed to box in the heavyweight division. I'm sorry but that's just the way I feel.

I was incredibly impressed with the near KO with the L hook.

Every Price opponent since his Ls have only worried about being at the end of the R cross.
Same thing with Povetkin. And Price finally threw a counter L.

If Ref hadn't called it a KD, Price might have been able to jump on Sasha, land a single OH R and shook up the world

 

As for the OP....

His status as a genuine contender ended when Teper blew him out.

The early Ls to Thompson were flukes. His eardrum burst when he was ahead.
Then he ended up gassing when if he'd been more patient, he almost certainly would have gotten the big KO.

But Teper, roided or not exposed his complete lack of a stiff jab and each fight since has been the same.

Price can make a good living fighting fellow Brits/Euros who are of the Cornish/Audley mold then being fed to a contender coming back from a loss or needing a name showcase fight.

He's never taken sustained punishment, so his brain health is not a great concern.

And when he is KOd it's just a quick scramble like walking into a chandelier. The cobwebs are cleared up in moments

 

Price looked good , he would have knocked out that last guy he fought easily if he boxed like he did against Povetkin. He delivered a beautiful body shot into Povetkin that seemed to momentarily blow the air clean out his ass. Took it well though Povetkin , who has extremely good punch resistance. Anything less and Pricey could won the fight early with his power.

 

I think Virgil is very sick right now.

 

We've seen Price KO'd four times now with 10 oz gloves on. He had a long AM career and he has taken a ton of hard blows in sparring and in all of his Pro fights.

His Brain health is indeed a Massive concern.

Yeah Price nearly KO'd Thompson & Hammer too. Price must be hurting because he's always in the fight. The holes in his Defense always get exposed when he gasses

 

True that, yeah I'd understand if Price retired but if he doesn't I agree. Price should just fight lower ranked Euro level for awhile after time off imho

I second this. He has taken too many punches. With an Amir Khan chin, he won't get far. Better for him to leave with his facilities in fact. It can just take one fight to destroy one's life

 

Earnie Shavers is a bit like this, he lost by KO early, and then against Quarry and Lyle, but got back into contention and had some stellar performances, albeit in losing efforts, against Ali and Holmes.

Back to Price, he is exhibit A of what we always say - you gotta have a chin in boxing. He's got good skills, excellent power, but he just can't take a shot, which is why he will never be able to beat top level fighters.
