Price v Thompson 2: Sanctioned Suicide

Listen i am sick of these super-heavyweights piping up, thinking the heavyweight crown is owed to them. What mistake did David Price make..? he got hit with a punch, and the odds are he is going to be hit again!

I commend David Price for making this fight, but it could backfire. Tony Thompson clearly did not train as hard for the first fight, compared to his other fights! And now, suddenly out of nowhere! There are some money fights coming his way if..? he gets past Price again! Infact! They are probably paying him good money to take the rematch.

This guys is going to be motivated now! And i don't think he will lay down, so quickly.

I think it will be a test.

I agree this fight is a test for Price and Thompson has it all ahead of him if he wins, but I cant see it. Price will be disciplined this time and not allow Thompson in the fight.

 

What's Price going to do differently then Gas out of interest?. You seem very confident he's going to put on a masterclass compared to last time out.

 

I sincerely hope David Price wins the rematch. However I have a feeling if Thompson has ambition and clocks him again there will be the same result.

 

I think Price believed the hype that surrounded him going into the last fight thinking he'd blast him out easily. That should be his wake up call. To step up to a higher level of opponent requires a higher level of matured intelligence. Hes not daft so i would say he'll have learnt from it and made adjustments.

Just use his size advantage, jab Thompson, stay on the outside and pick his moments, not the lazy gung ho - playing to the crowd action in the first fight.

 

My fear for Price in this fight is he will be over cautious for the fear of getting poleaxed again.

He wont be quite as gun shy as Audley is but I have a feeling it could be quite bad. If Thompson smells it he will go for it.

Price rather arrogantly felt that KOing Sam Sexton in 5 rounds [his best win to date] meant that he had the power to take out Tony Thompson quicker than Wlad did atsch

Obviously with hindsight we now know that this leap of logic is utterly bats**t mental, but such was his hype for these victories over very meagre opponents it somehow seemed fair and reasonable to Price and his fans.

This time Price will obviously not have this attitude.

Nevertheless, the way his legs fell from under him and went bambi like from such a weak cuffing shot, concerns me that when he gets hit again by Thompson he will go down again ... his amateur career points to this. It is an epic Achilles heel.

It's a real catch 22 for Price, he knows he has to be more cautious but knows Thompson HAS KO'd him ... and also knows he has the power to probably KO Thompson.

I think this mind melt might just end up in him being - literally - in no man's land, caught between a rock and a hard place ... there for the taking by Thompson as Price can't cope with pressure at all.

I applaud him for taking the fight, but I think it is a silly risk, borne from hurt pride and a real willingness not to look at facts in the face.

Before the first fight Price was being ridiculed by some for fighting such an old guy. Thompson was supposed to be over the hill. I don't think much has changed despite him winning the first fight. He seemed surprised by it himself. I'm not saying it was a fluke or that he can't do it again. Price is chinny no doubt and if he gets hit clean he could go again, but I also think Price will take much harder shots than that in his career and still stay standing. It was a strange shot. Didn't look like it had any power behind it at all.

It's not as if Price was being dominated before the KO or anything. He was in control. He never hurt Thompson but he was looking very comfortable. If he lands clean on Thompson I believe he will hurt him. This time I expect him to be a little bit more cautious, stay on the outside and keep his hands glued to his head when not throwing. He has the size advantage and it will prove to be the difference I think. Anything can happen thoug, and I can't wait for this fight. Nothing like a good upset in boxing. Price was floored and I was genuinely shocked. I know he's got a reputation of having a poor chin but not many expected Thompson to be the one to upset the hype train.

ESB is at it's best when there's an upset. Especially if it's by KO. Everyone goes all doom and gloom. "There's just no way back for the kid. No way. He's done". "Once a chin is shattered there's no way it can be put back together". "He needs a change of promoter, change of trainer, change of diet, change of everything"

But, I still think Price is suspect if he gets hit. He loves to fight on the front foot, as soon as he is forced to take a step back he is suspect.

 

And what has Price done that matches or betters that?

 

He looked like a world beater in his fights before he got caught with a silly shot from Thompson. I don't recall too many on here bigging up Thompson before the first fight, it was quite the opposite. Now Thompson is a killer.

 

Have to agree with this, he probably came to the first one to survive hoping he could land a lucky punch, then after landing a good punch and winning he probably got loads of fights offered to him, I can only see him training hard for this now knowing if he wins again he could easily get another good few fights, Chisora, Wilder, Scott
