You can have all the tactics in the world and Price may well be **** up close, but if you get hit like Fury did against Pakjic and a few others you're going to be in trouble. Beating up Kevin Johnson and throwing a million punches at Vinny Maddalone's face before he gets pulled out isn't going to change that. In an intense fight like this punches are going to be flying, the chin/power/likelihood to land or take a big shot equation is absolutely massive in the first 3 or 4 rounds. More important than tactics and who has a better jab. The thing is, the chin thing with Price is a suspicion at the moment. The guy has developed a lot physically, we're not really basing it on evidence in the pros. I happen to think he may still be dodgy, just a gut feeling, but there ain't the same evidence for it, and even if he does get put away by a Cammarelle type puncher, Tyson hasn't really shown a lot to suggest he's a big puncher so there is no guarantee there whereas we have conclusive evidence Fury can be hit, hurt, put on his arse against mediocre fair. Price has to be favoured for an earlyish KO as it stands, on the balance of probabilities considering the type of fight this is likely to be. If it does happen to go beyond the first 3 or so rounds, Fury comes into play.
Joshua looked better last year at the worlds, in the Olympics he looked slow & stiff. Seems to be spending too much time lifting weights as well. No chance Fury-Price happens anytime soon, Price is contracted for a few more fights on Boxnation & Fury has his C5 deal.
It was worrying to see how easily Skelton forced Price onto the ropes and landed some decent shots. If that was Skelton in his prime then Price might have been mauled to death.
I would of as right now favour Fury for a late stoppage/ UD based on the quality of Prices opposition, but would agree that it isn't clear cut either way and could easily be a KO for Price. I like both of these fighters anyway but neither of them are beating a Klitschko imo.
I agree mate. Before both fights this weekend I was with Price by KO (I did feel Fury would give him a tough fight though), but after the Skelton fight, and watching Fury tonight. I'm with Fury. Fury can fight inside so he could cause Price some big problems if he get's him up on the ropes. Plus Fury fights well backing up, sure he looks clumsy, but he can fight off the back foot. I didn't see that from Price last night. But Price can punch so he has a chance.
I agree Price looked more than a bit cumbersome going backwards, but by the same token you have to be aware of the fact as soon as he began throwing punches with any sort of venom Skelton was on his bike. Or at least, a lot of people are suddenly going to take a backward step at that point. It's part of the reason people don't just bumrush and pressure Wlad with abandon. It's not that easy to pressure a taller man when the guy is a true heavyweight puncher (I mean Wladimir also has better movement than Price - but its part of the issue.) So yeah, Fury could try to pressure Price but thats not an idea thats terribly likely to succeed just because Skelton had about a minutes worth of success.
Ofcourse he would Chisora is a plodder who will make Price work in close and going backwards, and he will not jab, Price being what 6'7" will struggle with this kind of style more than a tall 1-2 fighter like Wlad, dont read anything into that statement other than what i said about "styles" not particular opponents Fury is a lazy jabber, and when he lets his back hand go he leans off to the left, or he lunges in, its a crazy habit to have, but his height and what ring craft he does have means he hasnt been punished for this yet? once Fury takes a backwards step and Price is allowed to punch at distance and straight, he's gonna finish Fury off :deal
If Fury cannot control a fight with his jab he's cooked, Price has a more accurate and technical jab, and ................. when Price jabs he does not leave any gaps, no openings, Fury on the other hand rather half jabs, and his right hand sits low, Price's does not, its high, Fury paws, Price extends and turns his fist over. Fury will realise that he cannot jab with Price, and everything will fall apart after that
Fury can fight up close. He beat Chisora on the inside, once he get's inside on Price what does he do? If Skelton can get there, Fury can. Fury can fight backing up Price can't.
