Im pretty certain that Fury has never been hit with the impact or power David Price is packing, Price on the other hand has tasted very very little adversity, thats a problem, because Fury will work him! and as you say Fury has! There's not much i can say to your post that hasn't been said, its a fair post, but i share a different view Fury's lack of proper schooling and application will get him hurt and subsequently stopped against David Price in my opinion
That's not entirely true though is it Earl? You picked Fury, then a day or so after Price beat Audley you changed your mind and said Price would KO Fury, so you were actually part of the 'bandwagon' you speak of :-(
I'm guessing these aren't the reasons though: - He's 8 years older than Johnson - In his 40s - His last fight saw him finish on the canvas requiring medical attention - He is VERY slow - He HAS been KOd before (Johnson has never been on the floor, let alone KOd) - Doesn't have Johnson's defence or jab I guess in his favour he is taller and quite rangy, so would be a useful match up if Price is going to take on a Klitschko and like Johnson he is a former Klitschko victim. But other than that, I'm not sure why he is a better opponent. Unless by better you mean easier?
No, he's a better opponent in the fact he's a better fighter than Johnson. Based on the fact that he's established himself as a worthy contender by beating the B& C level American Heavyweights out there (Ibragimov, Beck, Guinn, Witherspoon). Johnson hasn't even done that, Leapai aside. And the fact that he will actually try and fight, rather than just soak up pressure and throw nothing back like Johnson. If you're writing off Thompson as an opponent because he was KO'd by Wladimir, then that discounts most Heavyweights as opponents. There's no shame in a prospect like Price taking on an opponent whose last fight was vs Klitschko, even if he was KO'd. And all reasonable boxing fans would see that- but I guess that doesn't include you :good
:deal Thompson is much better then Johnson. Johnson is utterly terrible, he doesn't even try to win fights, he just plods around the ring blocking punches.
Fury has fought a considerably higher level of opponent than Price and has thus gained much better experience. Fury also more skills than Price. Fury wins
Tyson Fury would outbox Price then stop him..On the other hand Price has devasting power and is chugging along nicely but if they met in there next fight im sure Fury would win. Tyson Fury is 24 years old and has achieved alot already if he carrys on training hard and improveing his boxing skills every fight which he is I think he will get a world title strap... As for fighting Wlad next that would be a mistake...
I'm writing off Thompson because he is in is 40s, unmotivated and shot. Thompson 5 or 6 years ago would DEFINITLEY have been a MUCH better opponent to learn something from than Johnson - I can't dispute that. But as of right now, he's just another old man in his 40s who will crumple under the first body shot or as against Wlad a jab that sails past his ear. Maybe I'm giving Price too much credit and it will be tougher than I expect? But either way, it will bring the total ages of his last 3 opponents to 130 years old! atsch Anyways, let's see if it actually happens first. It wouldn't surprise me at all if this eventually turns out to be Price vs Sprott :yep
How do you know he's unmotivated? And how do you know he's shot? Because Wladimir Klitschko beat him? He'd had a number of decent wins before that, or are you just ignoring them? Poor attempt from you I've got to say, culminating in the 'it probably won't happen line' because you know you can't justify Johnson being a tougher opponent than Johnson.
We all have to admit (detractors and admirers) that Fury is showing a lot of improvement. His temperament is improving and he's showing he can fight a disciplined fight, which was one of the big knocks against him as he's a bit of a hot head. He has a big lung capacity and he's savvy with a lot of moxie in there. He knows when to get a breather, how to get out of dangerous positions by turning his opponent and he has a clinch game which always comes in handy. Add to that his movement (which admittedly is a lot of wasted motion at times), his length, jab, variety, pretty good hand speed for a guy his size, plus the fact he has a good workrate and actually throws combinations (when is the last time you've seen a guy that big shoe shine like that). If he stays focused mentally with his diet and conditioning (which is half the battle) keeps learning and improving at this rate. He might just surprise us all.
:deal Fury surprised me last night... this isn't the same pudgy plodder that uppercutted himself in the face, the guy can box.
This is what I posted post Audley but before this weekend's fights on Price-Fury and although Fury won comfortably last night, it hasn't really changed my opinion on him overall. Johnson didn't really test him enough to give us a real insight into how much he's improved. Also, it's wrong to assume that Skelton getting inside to land 3 punches or so on Price is proof that Fury would be able to get inside, where he's without doubt better, and beat up Price there. He's not nearly the same as Skelton stylistically and wouldn't be able to just bull rush Price without being on the end of his jab and right hand, which a smaller fighter is less likely to be caught by. If anything, that would be the wrong approach for him to take.
Nice one Slip :good. Add to that a inner natural ability to fight, adept ability to fight inside at short range and flexibility from legs to shoulders he feints with ease and has nice quite quick hands and feet. Variety of punches and defensively at times is rather good it's just when he switches off and gets lazy. Very talented guy when he's focused IMO and his fitness has really improved from that night against McDermott he's looked a lot fitter and fights at a high tempo but now knows when to change tempo's and rhthym. Only thing i don't like right now is when he throws to body punches at same time and the nose flick (blowing nose) he does which Darren Sutherland did. Needs to cut that out cos it's not good at all.
