I have to agree. Those back of the head shots started in the very first round. Colón didn't retaliate with the low blow until round 5.
By then he had absorbed several brain stem shots that no doubt affected his performance after winning the first several rounds.

Williams is all street thug mentality. The referee acted like he was oblivious to what was transpiring around him. No way he could have missed seeing all those intentional rabbit punches.

I am also appalled that Williams trainer, Joe Goossen, did not admonish his fighter from throwing those brain-damaging shots. Goossen has been in the business long enough and keenly aware of what his fighter was doing. He didn't feel any empathy for the disgraceful display from his fighter.

That video angered me. Referee should be disciplined. His job is to protect the fighters. He didn't do his job.

I pray that Colon recovers, although that seems unlikely. It is a tragedy. He was a great prospect.

I think that when you turn your head and back to a guy as a defensive measure you cant really complain about getting hit in the back of the head. I read about the fight before i watched it, and i was prepared for a horrible display, but after watching it I felt like it wasnt nearly as bad as i had heard.

There was ONE serious blow landed to the back of his head. The others were minor, and in almost every circumstance he voluntarily turned his head or back.

We may never know, but im 100% positive there was some unknown injury coming into the fight. He fought 3 times in 78 days, as well as training. Im guessing he had an undiagnosed issue.

Watching it knowing what happened was haunting. It appears to me that he was severly injured in the middle of the fight and this even affected his ability. The last KD was a case of him already being injured, as he could barely balance himself.

The throat slash gesture, etc looks bad in retrospect but obv he had no way of knowing what was going to happen. He was ****ed because he got hit low he felt intentionally.

The biggest mistake to me was looking at how he was acting after the punch in the back of the head. Holding head, said he was dizzy, etc. In retrospect that was when it went off the rails.

The refereeing was not great by any means but not as bad as people are saying. Not sure he could hvave prevented it unless he stopped it when Colon was holding his head. But it may have been too late. We may never know.

I pray and hope Colon will recover. But this is going to happen in boxing im afraid. As fans and supporters of a brutal sport we all have to live with it.

Again, I strongly suspect that there was a previous concussion or injury previously.

It's much harder to notice when you are watching the full fight because you don't when or where to turn up your focus and concentrate so you can see what is really happening. I suggest you watch the condensed version on page two or three of this thread by "teemy" maybe then you will notice Williams had a game plan of rabbit punching, evidenced by clearly hooking behind the head early, and punching to the back of the head while looking right at it as opposed to a punch being started, then leaning from an opponent leading to it.

In any case, in most fights two or three rabbit punches is a lot, I'm not sure the number in this but I wouldn't be shocked if it were a dozen. The high number of times alone tells you they were no accident, even if it were cases of correcting mid flight many fighters are able to avoid the rabbit punching if they were trying. I hate to think a person could deserve such vitriol but in this case I think it would be irresponsible not to have our hands up about it. And quite frankly, boxing is once again failing to make a big enough case about this very serious issue.

Punch myself out of a paperbag? So I still punch hard enough to shatter your eggshell mandible I guess :yep

Get real. Stop defending Terrell Williams. Just because you are a ***** in real life and would cheat during a fight of honor doesn't mean you need to worship those who do. :good

This is a promising sign Colon's family have said Prichard is breathing on his own now, but unfortunately still remains in a coma.

Short article from ESPN about the traumatic brain injury (TBI) Prichard Colon suffered after his fight with Terrel Williams that hints at the severity of it with comments from Lou Dibella and that also mentions the many illegal behind the head shots including the powerful final shot in the 9th round that the ref did not penalize/warn Williams for despite constant complaints from Colon.

Is there any actual update on the guy?

    Still in a coma?

    Tragic stuff.

I just donated but, the bigger tragedy to how badly this family is going to need money is that there's a clear offender here that will never serve any type of punishment for the crime he committed. And the guy that was supposed to protect Prichard still has a job and isn't even being reprimanded in any sort of way, boxing is a disgusting sport at times..
