I've seen many people ask the same question over and over again..? Why is Jermaine Taylor still fighting, Danny Williams, Roy Jones, Audley Harrison etc etc Don't you think Roy Jones knows he's shot..? These guys are not stupid, in boxing you find out the hard way..when your shot. But these guys are trained to fight, fighting is what they do.......i remember at one time in these guys lives..they where winners. But once you become a winner, you never stop.... That's why guys like Ricky Hatton, Roy Jones, Danny Williams.. Will never go out on a loss.. If they can do something about it.. Boxing is a man's sport, its all about pride. The Last thing any boxer/athlete loosers is their pride man.. And in general life, the last thing a man will loose is their pride. So it dose'nt matter, weather your skills and athletic qualities are not what they once used to be... If you still have pride left inside of you, that gets you up in the morning to run, hit the bag, lift some weights......and think about every rep, never being satisfied totally with your work........... That makes you angry when you make a mistake, and if you still care what people think. You will never give up.. In all professions in life, and on the street......i admire this so much....I was walking in Liverpool City Centre just the other day, and i see many homeless people trying to sell the big issue.. Some people walk past these people like there not even there, some people quickly glance and look away... Some people look these people in the eye.. I just happened to be one of these people.. And there was one guy, as must of been 30meters away..and i could hear his voice. "Big issue please, please buy a big issue please" It was a cold bitter day, and as i came within 5 meters of this man. Another man, bought a big issue. It's probably the first time in the history of my life, that ive ever seen anyone buy a big issue. But as i was on my way to my destination..! i took one last look at this man. Here's a man, may have little money/clothes, house... But he has still got his pride, because he hasn't given up... Its the rawest form of pride, is when you are stripped down from all your materialistic things, talents, support or whatever... But you still fight.. That's when you know what your made of... And its the same in boxing, at the end of every boxers career...! They are just left with their pride..! I just think its such a beautiful thing to see, it's something that no man should have to explain to another.... I'm just sick of people asking... Why do fighters carry on if they know they are shot..? I've tried to explain it, in the best way i can... Everyman understands another man's struggle, that's why at the end of every boxing match, fighters embrace.. Because they understand... Thank You..
Boxing's a hard drug to kick. Many a warrior have stepped back one time to many just to go out on a good note or to continue a dream that was dead long ago. Some fighters fight on purely for money. Some for legacy and some just because there warriors and love the sport. It's something i cannot condone but i sure do respect. Any man that risks his life in a boxing ring deserves our respect my only problem with the likes of Hatton and Danny Williams and co are that there one punch away from being seriously hurt and could ruin another man's career..as we seen before sometimes the fighter who seriously hurt the other is gun shy. We seen many fighters never get to see there families again...they take a risk not worth taking imo. What it must do there families must be terrible...the fear of losing someone you love or them coming back the way other great fighters have came out...I cannot justify fighting on when your shot but as i said...it's a hard drug to kick.
I agree, I also understand that people don't want to see the fighters get seriously hurt but its NOT the fans place to stop them, fighters know the risks and rewards of the game. ****, PK is fast becoming the reincarnation of Winston Churchill!! I also think that some fighters convince themselves in training camp that they still have it. I recall seeing some clips of Robin Reid in training before his fight with Froch and he looked sharp, powerful and fit and I thought this guy looks 10 yrs younger but I was also there for the fight and he just looked an old man once fighting in the ring so I guess there's a similarity to football in that training can't replicate match fitness in the same way sparring and pad work is not a boxing match. Roy Jones also looked good in the lead up to Calzaghe and we all saw what happened there!
