I love the politics and drama of combat but that is a sub love to the fighting itself. Some guys want the UFC vs Pride bollocks vs SF bollocks. I started off a huge boxing fan and still am but Vitor Belfort changed it all for me He's the perfect fighter to make the transition for a boxing fan.
Every single Pride fight was a spectacle - it made you feel involved in something special - whether it was because of the amount of people who came to see it, or the type of people, being majority asian crowds they seemed more respectful they weren't the rednecks that booed every-time the fight was taken to the ground, the atmosphere, the culture behind it i dont know but Pride by far had a much better production standards.
I knew even before i opened this thread that it would be terribly 1 sided towards Pride , **** makes me laugh !!!!! Here i go : Pride : Produced some dazzling and memorable fights , and had the most competetive HW division ever , the UFC's modern day HW division may consist of some of yester years Pride top HW's but there all done now and over the hill , it has nothing on the top level HW's of Pride no real super stars unless you really like to see Wrestlers !!!! My problems with Pride are simple , 10 minute opening round (are u shitting me !!! how ****in stupid is that) , PED's , absolutley rife among Pride , The Ring (again makes for less entertainment and is unfair on grapplers) , the subdued crowd , and the mis matches !!!! , i could go on all night about the above but im sure some of you will take me on with individual arguments , so ill dance when you do !!!! The UFC , now back in the day even considering all of the above , when Pride was in its peak the UFC really was its poor relative , im talking round about UFC 48 , but the UFC has evolved into something Pride could never be !!!! A clean , structured organisation with real weight classes and real title's , with each division housing top level fighters in the world in large numbers , maybe barring Pride's HW division for about 18 months in its prime , Pride could never be this .............................. , the UFC is the only organisation to have ever offered this kind of competition with this kind of exposure and popularity , i know the die hards never want to forget Pride and will argue until they go blue in the face the UFC has nothing on Pride , its a load of **** , the modern day UFC machine pisses on Pride and its steroids and mis matches , it really does :deal
Yeah the UFC's NEVER had a problem with hormone abusers. Oh wait a minute... Get this pile of **** post out of here.
Ok lets look at who's actually posting a pile of **** , well that would have to be you !!!! :deal , another in depth world class 1 liner !!!! :good Almost everbody who fought in Pride was pumped full of gear , the UFC back in the day may of had a few problems but they rectified that and cleaned it up , Pride ignored the fact there best fighters were steroid freaks , ****ing proffesional , GTFOH :fire , ****in pathetic !!!!
Yeah sweeping statements with no semblence of fact is normally a good way to punctuate your argument. And yes your right the UFC sure rectified the problems with Bonnar Sylvia Sherk etc. The fact there heavyweight champ was a regular hormone abuser doesnt matter because now he apparently isnt on them anymore. Plus theres Randy Couture but he uses HGH legally... Twat
All of whom received suspensions , from tests , carried out by the Athletic comission's in an attempt to clean up the sport , what where Pride's thoughts on cleaning up the sport TWAT ????? What was so great about watching (more often than not) huge men clearly all abusing PED's beat the **** out of little men in order to keep there superstars on there mantle's ????? Your either into Pride or the UFC and im a UFC man , i have presented my case , ive stated exactly why i disliked Pride , all you have really done is try to lambast and pick holes in arguments against Pride and havent really said anything worthy of note TBH :deal
Sylvia, Bonnar, and Sherk were all SUSPENDED for their abuse. You are creating a false equivalency here. The issue is not whether fighters abuse performance enhancers, I am sure that some fighters do it in every promotion. Athletes do it in almost every single sport. The issue is how does the promotion deal with it? In the UFC fighters are tested and suspended. In venues where the athletic commissions don't test the UFC took it upon itself to make sure the fighters were tested. In Pride the fighters were given a list of steroids they could use that they wouldn't test for. You are intentionally misrepresenting the difference because you care more about Pride being better than the UFC than you do about an accurate representation of the situations. Pride had a lot of things going for it that the UFC doesn't, but let's not pretend that the way things were weren't the way things were.
I disagree. In this poll obviously you had to pick one or the other but I loved Pride. It had some of the greatest matchups ever, and the rules were more exciting (though I hated the ring). I don't feel that I have to pick one promotion over another. Pride had the best heavyweights in the world back in the day and it put on some of the best fights ever. There were lots of problems with it, sure, but I still watch old pride fights! Scurla is anti-ufc. I happen to think the current UFC is a better promotion than Pride ever was, mainly for the reasons you stated, but I wouldn't say I am a "UFC man". Strikeforce is putting on some really good cards now and I hope they do well. Dream's last event was pretty awesome too (though I'm getting really tired of watching Aoki break ****. Why won't people tap to him? Surely they know he can and will do it by now.) I like mma and I wish people didn't pick sides. Especially when picking sides means being against the promotion that has most of the best fighters.
