Seriously, what the **** is this? MenBearPig provided an extremely interesting historical artifact to illuminate a major, recurring issue on this board. You respond with this personal ****? Who is adding to the conversation here and who is trying to devolve it to playground name calling?

I'm not one for calling out "board etiquette" but this is just a waste of time and space. How do I put someone's comments on "ignore"?

You're not dealing with the sharpest knife in the drawer here.

This is the same genius who stated that Tyson gave a better performance against Kevin Mc Bride than he did against Buster Douglas.

And then argued and maintained that point for several more pages.

Don't be disingenuos, who in their right mind would say that Jess Willard would beat Ali in a 15 round fight.? No sane poster would say that.
Sir, it is YOU who are BIAS, and your ludicrous assertion proves that...:hi:

Gene Tunney makes that pick in the link you didn't bother to click on.

This place has went a bit nuts, I think.

Where the hell did it all come from?

Literally every other thread the last few days has devolved into a vicious back-and-forth about Jack Dempsey.

Gene Tunney also thought a good boxer could beat a silverback gorilla.

yes the 'generation bias' also exists.
how many here in their 30s and 40s think the fighters of the 1980s and 90s are better than fighters now ?
how many of us in our 50s and 60s say the fighters of the 1960s and 70s were better?
    its the norm

Tunney does seem to have a bad case of the generation bias, and that's to be expected; that's understandable.

He was also very old and probably didn't like Ali personally, as was the case for many in those days. He insisted there was a headbutt like he'd bet his life on it, claiming there's no way in hell a gloved fist could give a man 15 stitches. This insistence came without having seen the fight yet.

Is this a different broad in your avatar or just another picture of the last one?

I read an article where Tunney picked Dempsey to beat Marciano, Walcott and Charles on the same night.

The guy was a total troll.

I've always wondered if generational bias works in reverse. It is pretty much the norm that people think that their generation is superior to the current, but how about compared to previous generations?

The 70s-80s were my generation. But I put many fighters of past generations over fighters of my own. I wonder what some of those old timers would have answered if you'd asked about their contemporaries vs the previous generation of pugs?
