i know most tyson fans think of 1988 regarding his prime, however i have noticed in 1988 all the skill he had from 1985 was gone. he was just going on the bullying/intimidation factor.

you,re joking right ? 88 Tyson was without question the best version .
in my book the best ever HW champion.
after the spinks fight his motivation started to decline

I think it all came down to busters motivation and physical tools/style. Had tyson been 100% and buster been 100% i say buster still wins 7/10 times. Styles make fights.

Whats got you so rattled there Sangria.

Your user name reminds me of a Sangria bar i used frequent in Paris. The owner was a grumpy old man who used spend his working nights seating people around the bar. Uprooting and rearranging people here, there and everywhere with no apparent reasoning at all.

People didn't care much though cos one jug of that stuff blew your top. The Frech trendies used take an age to drink a jug. I downed the stuff like like juice. Needless to stay i got ejected quite a few times.

Tysons prime was 88- in 1985 he was a rookie being spoon fed a bunch of Tomato cans..

I think the 88 Tyson beats the 90 Douglas by decision....

After 89 Tyson started to lose focus, and quit the head movement, and started trying to take everyone out with one punch.....

So I guess the 1985, 18 year old version of Tyson with umpteen fights and a recent loss to Henry Tillman in the Olympic trials was better than the one who had just unified the crown and beaten Tucker, Tubbs, Holmes and Spinks? Interesting.

No way was Tyson as good in '85-'86 as peak/'88 even '87, how can this even be conisdeed seriously?

Besdies that thinking he was prime from 18 & after amateur losses is absurd, you can SEE his movement & skilld getting better & more consistent. And no human being ever is gonna be as good before he fights increasingly skilled pros that provide different challenges like Tillis & many others did.

That is why it is said you get 50% better after you win the title.
Folks get better BEFORE then too.

Tyson almost had DOuglas out of there even absent training, weight drained & unhealthy before their fight, & visibly lacking his usual energy, movement & aggression.

It is not a styles question, Tyson in shape & motivated would almost always take DOuglas since he was better than even a quite good best fight ever Douglas.

Later vcersions of Tyson had varying levels of skills.
But by the 2000s they had greatly declined. Lacking movement, endurance & motivation amongst other things was lacking many skills.

Best night ever Douglas beats Tyson in '85, not much later he wins. I do not know exactly when that would come.

But I am fairly confident that the last time best ever Douglas would likely beat Tyson was May '86 when he fought (& learned from) his battle with Tillis. Douglas MIGHT beat Mike at his best as late as that August, when Tyson also gained from a tough fight/TKO win against Ribalta.

He does not lose again until Tokyo. And I do not know if primo Douglas would beat Tyson after that until the late '90's, but he might.

An old and washed holmes who just came out of retirement? Yet it took tyson 4 rounds to take out a shell of the eastern assassin in a fairly even fight
