Ali defeats Holmes by clear decision. Sure Holmes would have his moments, making Ali to sweat a lot, but at the end Ali is fast and skilled enough to outmanouver Holmes.
Shot Williams, old Folley, Mildenberger, Henry Cooper, Brian London, crippled Patterson, and Liston #2.....Terrell and Chuvalo who both tried. Holmes probably does the same to those opponents as Ali did. Just depends how really pissed Holmes is before the fight because Ali will come in thinking he can't be beat. Neither fighter really have an inside game....left hooks minimum....but Ali has a great right hand to hurt Holmes, and Holmes has a mucho heavy left jab to bust Ali up.
The way I see it Holmes can win it with the jab and Ali can win it with the right hand. Ali had a bit more speed, but Holmes used his strength and could fight on the inside and body punch. I voted for Holmes just to even the poll out a bit. It could go either way, could be very close.
I've made it clear on other threads, that I'm convinced that a 1972-74 Ali would win a close decision against a prime Holmes,so there's no surprise in my view here. A prime Ali would outspeed Holmes, probably by a margin of 9 - 6 in rounds.
I think Ali's speed and ring smarts win him another decision. But Larry wouldn't let up and would keep Muhammad on his toes. Ali should win, but Larry could definitely edge it as well...on a given night, that is.
This is interesting, technically Holmes is better, hits harder with a better jab, Ali has better faster footwork and quicker hands and might well head **** Holmes a little. Ali had a little problem with jabbers. Holmes was a little open to right hands. I see it as a fascinating contest prime for prime and think it would be very close, perhaps controversal
This is a good one. Considering Holmes had one of the sharpest jabs in boxing and Ali couldn't block a jab to save his life. All Ken Norton did pretty much was jab Ali when they fought and he made Ali looks pretty bad. But since Holmes didn't pull his jab back quick enough I could see Ali countering and hurting him.
Ali's right is the difference. He counters Holmes jab often enough with it, often enough to take the close but clear decision.
Prime Ali beats any HW in history in my book, even my hero Lewis. I'll always pick Ali vs any HW Prime4Prime.
I know the blind huggery can get in the way for alot of people. I sat down with some mates and could not find a fighter who beats a PRIME Ali 2/3 fights. I am not stupid enough to believe even a Prime Ali doesnt get beat once. I genuinely believe Ali prime takes a trilogy against every man to ever lace up a glove. not sitting on the fence on this one
this is like asking who wins toney vs jones had they never fought. Ali did most of the things holmes did and some slightly better but in his prime was a athletic phenom for a heavyweight, prime Ali wins comfortabily look how easily he dealt with guys with brillient jabs like ernie terrel (ok he ain't holmes) but you get the point. if they were both outta their respective primes though then i might go for holmes.
Ali by a decision. Holmes had an excellent Jab,not as fast as Ali's but harder. Ali had a decent right hand that would find its way in but a decision win for Ali
