The Prime of Cobb was between 81-83, and the Dukes prime was probably 1993, when he beat Foreman who wins the battle of the 2 rednecks, who loved to party? and were both actors?:huh

Cobb might have a shot late with Morrison's stamina problems but I think Tommy's boxing skill would carry him to a UD. Cobb should of gotten the nod in the Dokes fight that was stopped on the accidental butt, the Cobb from that fight would of been tough with his relentless pressure.

Mike Dokes gave Tex Cobb a boxing lesson in 1981, for a very convincing victory, i remember the fight well:good
As far as the follow up fight goes, i gotta watch it , if i can find it? but there's no way to say Cobb should have gotten the nod after ONLY 4 ROUNDS:-( that's only the 1/3 of a fight, and an accidental butt is a no contest...

A mismatch in terms of skill, but the great irony here is that I actually give Cobb a shot. His chin could take Morrison's vaunted punches, and he'd still be there after a few rounds.

I have a lot of respect for Tommy's skills, but I don't think I've ever seen a top heavyweight with worse stamina. It was truly bad. Godawful actually.
After 5 or 6 rounds, Morrison would be usually be gassed, and this happened in nearly every fight he had - even against journeymen.

If Cobb is still there after 6 rounds - and I don't see why he shouldn't be - he has a real live shot of winning this fight.

1985 Silver Skull I'm sure the bout is on youtube. Of course you can say the fight was only 4 rounds but that is a cop out if you haven't seen the fight. We both know Cobb wasn't going to be knocked out and the narrative of the fight was set. Dokes may have one that wasn't my point, my point was cobb looked very good in that fight and their is no way after 4 rounds that Dokes should of been given that deciscion Cobb won 3 of the first 4 rounds

And an accidental butt is a no contest before the 4th round-4th round or later it goes to card although diffrent sanctioning bodies may have diffrent rules that was the rule in place for this fight.

Hard to say, I'd expect Morrison to dominate Cobb for at least 4-5 rounds and land some tremendous punches. I know Cobb has an iron chin but everyone can be knocked out and I believe there is a possibility of Morrison either KOing Cobb or the ref stopping the fight after a barrage of power punches. If Cobb does weather the storm then Morrison may be in trouble. What made Cobb an effective fighter was his ability to absorb punishment and keep coming with a high punch out put throughout the fight. Cobb was a big strong guy and though not having very snappy punches they did have some impact behind them and after a while took there tole. I think should Cobb whether the early storm he may be able to wear out and take out Morrison or perhaps win a close decision. I think Morrison may also be able to dig deep and survive the ten rounds and win a decision as well. If the fight was scheduled for 12 it would benefit Cobb greatly. If Morrison fights Cobb the way he fought old Foreman I think he could dominate as Cobb was something like an Old Foreman just not nearly the technician or the power puncher and probably even slower its just that most of the time Morrison wasn't able to implement that kinda game plan.

That's the moral of this matchup you have the faster more athletic Morrison, vs the Tougher Tex with the chin of iron.

9 times out of ten, in pro boxing as we all know the finesse slick quicker guy will win, over the tough, strong guy with the better beard.

This fight would probably be no exception..

I would take Morrison on a decision Cobb was as tough as they come hell after he fought Larry Holmes just a few months later he fought for the PKA superheavyweight champonship. If Cobb can take a kick in the head he should be able to handle punches.

Yep. Horrible outing for Dokes. He was blowing hard in the second round. He was out of gas by the end of the third. And I thought he was actually shook up in there--and Cobb is no hitter.

There was no way Dokes was making it to the end of that fight. And Cobb just kept pressing forward in that one gear of his, but it was still way too much for Dynamite Dokes on that night. The ballgame was over for Dokes and those legs were long long gone.

I'm gonna pick Tommy. He becomes one of a few to actually stop him.

Bump because this is interesting in that there’s 2 very different ways this could go and it depends on which version of Morrison shows up.

Cobb had a great chin and decent stamina and I don’t see Morrison taking him out early, which is what he tried to do too often, if he does that, I actually think there’s a great change he gets stopped late as Cobb is able to weather the storm.

If Morrison looks to gain Cobb’s respect and keep it low volume, he’s able to outbox him, get in and out and beat him to the punch.

Leaning towards Morrison winning by a decision but I can also see some dangers in this fight for him

50/50 I think. Morrison could def gas like he did many times, but he could also catch Texx cold coming in, not with one shot but multiples. However Cobb could def wear Tommy down as well. I wouldn't bet on a Morrison ko win but you never know worked for Dee Collier.
