If Alexander Povetkin had been in his PRIME today instead of age 39, would he have beaten Anthony Joshua?

Joshua is a very good heavyweight, but not really an elite heavyweight like Lennox or Wladimir.

Joshua. He would stop him later, around 10 or 11th round. Joshua's chin is fine and his power is excellent. Once Povetkin tired, AJ finished him righht then and there. Prime Povetkin would tire slightly later, but he DEFINITELY would.

And, by the way, prime Povetkin ducked Wlad like a plague for 4+ years waiting for him to become older. Wlad definitely looked past his prime starting with Pianeta fight. So getting another title shot so late in his 30s was a poetic justice - Povetkin deserved it for ducking Wlad.

You could argue joshua is not yet in his prime though...could be more to come from him

I still pick joshua, povetkin might have had more stamina years ago but being a few years younger wouldnt have stopped him getting knocked out like he did.

A Ukrainian would obviously be biased against Russians

Make the fight in Moscow also and he wins for sure.

You mean the prime povetkin on roids?

I'm pretty sure AJ might just have a chance vs a guy who went 12 with Huck

Notice Povetkin didn't do any combo's to the body like he use to do in his prime?

    That's because he was shot.

A prime Povetkin wouldn't let AJ breath in there, he'd be sticking it to him throughout the rounds rather than predominately head hunting whilst fighting in bursts.

Povetkin’s size and approach seemed just wrong for Joshua, that’s why I’d have a younger Povetkin winning. His feints are something else. You can tell he was well schooled as an amateur.

If I were Joshua I’d be inspired by those feints, and that’s all I’d work on.

Povetkin is far more skilled, but just isn't a legitimate and a natural heavyweight. Joshua is! That's what'd PROBABLY make the biggest difference!

I'm not sure if there's absolutely anything Povetkin can do to overcome his lack of physical strength and size disadvantages against the much bigger Joshua. Even though he is more skilled. If they were the same size, it's a no contest as Povetkin wins easily!

Even if he could Joshua would be gassed after three rounds of moving and feinting like that.

Povetkin is an excellent fighter, but his feints didn't work at all against Wlad.
