  1. what a bunch of crap:lol:

liston almost did not touch the face of ali, and liston had the reach of lennox lewis and primo carnera.
and liston was not slow, what the hell are you talking ?:nut

Over all Ali was clearly faster than Tyson.

Tyson threw great hook flurries but Ali had much faster straight punch combos.

Ever heard of a debate there newb?

Why can't you try to have a debate, instead of acting like you're some sort of boxing guru that is automatically right, at FANTASY matchups.

Fantasy matchups = Fantasy verdicts. Which translates to, no one will ever know who is right. So if you're gonna post about it be open minded, try to debate, rather than berade, you look like less of an idiot.

That's what I thought when I read it too...Liston had a jab that was the equal of Ali's, yet he couldn't land it despite having great handspeed and power. Ali was just so damn fast in those days he was almost impossible to hit, and he wasn't even prime yet. Give Ali a few more years when he was even better than that and he was a machine. I could see prime Tyson beating Liston, but not prime Ali, he'd waste way too many punches and gas out by 8-9 rounds like he did against Holyfield, he would be badly behind on the cards by this stage too and end up getting stopped.

:patsch Why do I waste my time.

  10. yea, but i doubt that tyson might beat a prime liston 59, liston was similar to foreman and no short puncher would beat foreman or liston. liston had the jab, the reach, the power, the strength, the stamina, and the speed to give the hell to tyson.and liston would not be scared of tyson i think that tyson would be scared of liston..

True...don't get me wrong my friend I was just saying I find it easier to see Tyson beating Liston than Ali that's all, I still think Liston would take his lumps whatever happened. Tyson would destroy Patterson and Johannsen though, and I'm fairly sure he'd have beaten most other HW's in his prime.

Hammerin' Hank had a monstrous left hook, and Ali was clowning and relaxing. I doubt he would be that casual against Mike. Every fighter gets caught sooner or later, it's what happens after that that counts.

Ali was VERY different in 1971 than he was in 1966. A little edge had gone from his speed, and he spent most of the fight flatfooted. 66 Ali NEVER stops moving, NEVER gets off his toes, and he was as big and strong in 66 as he was in 71 and next to impossible to hit on the chin. There's also a case to be made that Ali was ring rusty the first time he fought Frazier. He blew him away in the rematch, and underestimated what he was facing in the rubber match after Frazier's losses and after handling him so easy in the second fight. Ali was notorious for never training harder than he thought he had to... the difference between him and other fighters is that he was nearly always correct about what kind of shape he needed to be in for each opponent.

I'm not a guy who underestimates Tyson. I think prime Tyson beats any version of Frazier. I think he beats a prime Foreman, but I wouldn't pick him against a prime Sonny Liston. Tyson is probably just as quick as Ali with short uppercuts and hooks on the inside, but that won't matter because that's not where the fight is going to take place. The poll is about 3-1 in Ali's favor, and that's probably about the odds I would set for the fight. Ali a 3 to 1 favorite.
