I agree, Moore was really a very good heavy, and was really good in the Marciano fight .

That said,( and take this with a grain of salt) Patterson destroyed Moore. Quarry and Patterson fought a pretty even fight with Quarry getting the win. That is how good a Prime Quarry is. His style is suited to beating Moore as well.

People are saying Moore hurts Quarry, but do you all remember Quarry near his peak fought Lyle and Shavers! Two of the hardest hitting heavies out there who were bigger than Moore as well. Moore is not at either of their level when it comes to power - and Quarry beat both of them.

As much as I love Moore, Quarry at his peak beats him more often than not. As I study this matchup, the more I am convinced of it.

From what I understand, Moore wasn’t trained correctly for the Patterson fight. And sometimes it's just how styles mesh up.

Quarry vs Patterson was over 11 years after Patterson vs Moore. 11 long years ..

Patterson was at the end of a brutal career when he fought a prime Quarry to two very close bouts. He retired for years and made a comeback in 71.

Moore clearly fought the prime lighting fast aggressive Patterson.

Doesn't matter. The Patterson of 56 was a beast who likely have wiped the floor with Quarry.

Quarry struggling so mightily with a washed out Patterson at the end of his career over a decade later tells us everything.

Quarry faced old, washed up Patterson and he arguably lost the fight. This comparison is pointless, Moore faced far better version ot Floyd and he wasn't at his best himself (unlike Quarry).

I gotta take Moore. A greater fighter, & whiule the Quarry vs. Lyle & Shavers examples are instructive for his skills against powerhouse sluggers, It should not apply against a brilliant counter-punching tactician.

Someone who knows better can school me is they like, but it seems to me these guys were broadly similar, but Quarry more of a swarmer. But Moore was also often aggressive, with the easily superior record & longevity.
They are close enough in HW size that the skill differential should make the difference.
Quarry at his best was excellent, just not quite on Moore's level.

Many ringside observers had Patterson winning the first fight that was a draw.
