I wasn't aware of Walcott wearing them although I'm sure many of the time did, I know some fighters sold their legacy down the toilet more than others though and I believe Ike to be 1 of those.

Bottom line Williams knock out ratio is pretty deceiving

 

Any examples of fights he threw or carried the opponent? Not disputing that he wore the cuffs on occasion, but based on the footage we do have I don't see any reason his KO percentage wouldn't be relatively low in comparison to his power/finishing ability. His record, and the accounts, indicate that he always seemed to have trouble with slicksters most of all. That makes perfect sense to me given his rigid, up-right style. He rarely pounced until he saw the right opportunity or had the opponent hurt.

As for your claims against the success of swarmers and their like against Ike, what do you make of his bouts with Bob Montgomery and Sammy Angott, PP? He seemed plenty troubled by the both of them, having been stopped by both of them once a piece and having scored two close SD's over Angott in their rubber bouts. He eventually got his revenge over Montgomery, but by then the man was perhaps past his best, it has to be said, and he retired shortly after. The first bout was overwhelmingly in Montgomery's favor, who was said to have been a very slick, pressuring banger who fought out of a crouching stance. Not too dissimilar from Armstrong, wouldn't you say?

 

I don't know that he ever threw a fight, but he did admit to carrying Enrique Bolanos in their second bout.

That's very interesting, as I was just watching an 18 minute round-by-round highlight of that fight on Youtube. He sure seemed to be throwing some commited leather at times, to me. Bolanos just looked to be an exceptional boxer, who at times even traded with Williams in close, albeit in a controlled manner. Hmmm.
