Two things struck me with Canelo-BJS. 1. Canelo still doesn't cut off the ring very well. He often doesn't take that step to the left that would cut off that escape route. 2. His countering is so good and devastating that he dosen't really need to corner his opponent. Just keep a steady pressure on and at some point the other guy will need to open up, make a mistake and then he does what he did to BJS. Now, Hopkins is on another level to anyone he's faced with the possible exception of GGG, so I don't say Canelo would counter him with impunity in any way, but Hopkins would definitely be wary of those counters and choose his attacks very carefully. I think it would e great chess match.
Well argued. It is worth noting, however, that Kovalev has superior length and a superb, rhythm-busting power jab. I think both attributes greatly affected Ward in the first fight (and to a lesser extent the second). Canelo's is not as rangy and does not possess as potent a jab. Cheers.
Canelo couldn't handle post prime GGG. How the hell does he handle a prime Hopkins? Any time in his forties Hopkins probably beats him. In his thirties he'd knock Canelo out.
Bernard by a mile - faster, more skilled, longer range, and more experienced Bernard is a slick fighter like Floyd Mayweather. Canelo would have a hard time hitting him cleanly, well Bernard would him with sharp punches while rolling/blocking Canelo's punches
You are not going to beat "prime" Bernard Hopkins with slow feet and also you cannot sit and counter with Bernard and win, nor can you attempt to "stalk" him and win . These are three major things that are in Canelo's arsenal. Bernard would ruin Canelo. It honestly would end up being an anti climactic fight. Ironically, the same style that has given Bernard trouble historically is the same type that would give Canelo the most trouble.
