Calling it outboxing Hopkins, when Hopkins lost a questionable decision, after landing 99% of the significant punches of a fight where he gassed half way through is odd. Video analysis doesn't show Calzaghe landing more than 50 punches, while being dropped, and also buckled on three occasions by a guy with zero gas in the tank. Saying Roy easily outboxed Hopkins is a bit of a stretch. While Roy did win wide, Hopkins landed his fair share of solid punches, not what I would call easily outboxing someone. Dawson beat Hopkins because the judges rewarded activity over punches actually landing. Hopkins landed the better punches of the fight, and in most rounds landed more punches. You won't win round only throwing 10 shots a round though.
Put Golovkin or Jermain Taylor in that 120 degree arena, at high altitude to fight the Segundo Mercado who entered the ring that night. He probably KO's both of them. The Echols that Hopkins fought wasn't a joke, and would have a belt today. Call him what you may, but when he fought Hopkins, he would destroy guys like Geale, Macklin, Quillen, and Barker. Not sure if he quit against Robert Allen the first time, or whether he was really hurt. The Robert Allen from the first two Hopkins fights would beat beat Sergio Martinez. The fact that people criticize some of Hopkins opposition in this manner shows that they didn't really have a firm knowledge of the said fighters, or that middleweight division. Barker, Macklin, Geale, Quillen, would be hard pressed to be top ten guys back then. I wouldn't pick any of the mentioned to beat the Mercado, younger Echols, or younger Allen that Hopkins fought. Everybody claims injury when they can't finish a fight like they wanted to. I don't recall seeing Hopkins ever hurt in the first fight with Roy. Hopkins just has a chin.
Based on what? Just because you say it, doesn't make it so. All these shots everyone says Stevens hit him with... I didn't see any cuts or swelling. What fight did he show these issues? The one in which he had influenza? People say his defense sucks, yet he doesn't look busted up after fights. Pass some of that over here. :smoke
I wasn't talking of the Stevens fight. If I get a chance, I will see if I can find the fight I was thinking of and link it. When people fight all overmatched opponents they tend to look sensational. His defense does suck. You won't find out until he gets in with a quality opponent though.
If you get a chance? What's stopping you? And his defense doesn't suck like you say it does. It's not great by any means but for someone with his style, he's not going to be slick. If Ward goes out of his way to mention some good things that he does, it can't be that bad, especially when he's not getting hit as much as people say he does.
My world doesn't revolve around you. Not recollecting which specific fight I am thinking of, it will take a minute to find that fight, when I have the time.
Glad you pointed that out. I wasn't sure if it did... Pointless to even mention that. Shouldn't take that long to find tho. But when if/when you do, I hope it's worthwhile.
I know you weren't talking about Stevens... You did mention any specific fight. I was just using the Stevens fight because Stevens hits hard and if GGG had weak skin that should have shown that flaw. So according to you, GGG's defense sucks so he gets hit a lot and he cuts and swells easily...... So wouldn't his face be messed up in every fight according to your assertions? Hmm, yet they are not. Odd, don't you think? I guess one or both of your assertions are false.
He got lifted off the ground with that Brook uppercut, stumbled back and Brook teed off on him. So that's a good indication he's human, and who knows he may be packing some glass!
Hopkins at 160 would have probably made him look silly like he did to Trinidad. Yeah yeah, Tito was a welter, but you goons also claim GGG IS a natural Jr mw.. lol
