Prime Bernard Hopkins vs Prime Andre Ward...

Humdinger is not what I would say - whilst I think it would have been a fascinating matchup, I think they each nullify most of their best assets leading to a 'chess match' type of encounter that would not be great for the fans, with both fighters using all the dirty tricks in the book to get the W.

Given that most of Bernard's signature wins are against smaller fighters, I would take Ward in a stink-em-up UD, with Bernard maybe forcing an SD or even a draw depedning in the judges, ref and point deductions that happen...

 

Ward decision. I think Bernard's best weight was middleweight

 

Who wins? Definitely not the crowd. 50/50 fight with Ward eeking it in a snoozefest involving lots of hooking, grappling, wrestling, arm-wrestling & other ugly maneuvers both fighters can think of.

MW Bernard up through his fight vs. Jermain would beat Ward if he moved from MW to SMW to make the fight happen. Any version of LHW Bernard loses to LHW Ward.

This fight would be horrendous to watch and score.

 

This would be the boxing form of Ambien.

 

Ward is a stronger and more athletic version of Hopkins. Probably is smarter in the ring too. I would pick Ward in an UD at 168 on up.

 

PPV snoozefest, but man what a great fight for the purists.

Yup, think there will be a lot to see in there that the average fight fan won't pick up on - move, counter-move, adjustment, counter adjustment. Hard to see past Ward, mostly as IMO he is very similar to Hopkins, but bigger and stronger. But Hopkins is as wily as they come.

Prime Bhop. Bully gets bullied & prison rules him.. beats him at his own game .. prison inmate Bika gave him fits , & Hopkins is a master technical boxer too.. no reason to suggest Hopkins couldn't beat Ward, Wards not fought anyone like Hopkins, Hopkins fought em all & beat most of em.. Ward had to cheat to beat most euro style fighters so God knows what he'd have to do to beat Hopkins who had every trick in the book & was brilliant technically too.. this fight would be better off in mma TBH, or a gypsy rules bare knuckle no holds barred contest lol

 

Ahh! I've always taken humdinger to be like a barn-burner, white-knuckle ride of adrenaline and action. Like Hearns vs Hagler was the definition of Humdinger!!!!

Ward vs Hopkins would deffo be "The Purists Humdinger" though!!!
