Hopkins is too crafty. Bad matchup. GGG isn't fast enough to trouble Hopkins. He's also very basic in his approach.

Yes I do understand altitude and climate adjustment, but thanks for the clarification. It’s a good job you are here.

After he drew and won against Mercado he took easier options and didn’t beat anyone elite at 160 (not that he ever had beaten anyone decent previously anyway), but instead feasted on blown up welterweights like Tito, Oscar and Simon Brown.

The one time he did box someone elite at 160 it was a green and very young Roy Jones and he lost comprehensively.

Luckily for him he got better over time mainly at 175. At 160 GGG would have him on his hands and knees moaning and crying to the referee, trying to get a breather every 5 minutes like he did against Calzaghe.

Hopkins was more green than RJJ was when they fought which you fail to mention wasn't RJJ also 1 year away from schooling Toney ? He wasn't that green.

Remind me of all these great names Golovkin beat ? since you're so busy criticizing Hopkins resume.

Tito a blown up Welterweight ? Didn't he beat Joppy for a Middleweight strap and was the betting favourite vs Hopkins ?

GGG didn't have many great challenges tbf what with Canelo ducking him for 5 years, but Jacobs was a good win on paper.

You are obviously a B Hop fan and it’s just my opinion, but I’m not sold on him at 160. The 3 fights with Robert Allen for example are ridiculous. When he finally came up against a live wire in Taylor he lost twice.

We can agree that Tito did a much, much better job on Joppy than Hopkins did, but Felix was a very small middleweight don’t get it twisted. Hopkins was considerably bigger than him, however it was a good win for him and respect for that.

Did you edit your post, as the RJJ bit has just appeared? Jones was green and massively criticised by the press and fans alike until he took out Thomas Tate the fight before Toney and everyone knows that. I’m just talking facts.

I can’t stand Hopkins for whatever reason but I see him outboxing GGG for 12 rounds. Hopkins UD. Or at worst MD.

I'm not a Hopkins fan at all I just don't understand that you're criticizing Hopkins resume when Golovkin's resume is pretty forgettable.

If Golovkin beat Tito who was top 3 P4P fighter and proved atleast he was a capable Middleweight that would be Golovkins best win by quite some distance.

As for Daniel Jacobs I would say he's comparable to Keith Holmes who Hopkins beat easily where as Golovkin just about scrapped past Jabobs based on the knockdown.

Thanks for your reply. Being honest I’m not sold on him at 160 as I’ve said, but I also am not a fan so that prob doesn’t help his case either. I just don’t think he faced the best at that weight until he boxed and lost to Taylor. Respect his career though.

I’m not a huge GGG fan either, but I did go to the Jacob’s fight at MSG (mainly to watch Chocolaitito) and had him winning by a point with the knockdown and agree it wasn’t a great performance. My wife had it for Jacobs by a couple of rounds and left in a huff when GGG got the decision, it was pretty funny and I was proud of her.

Objective boxing fans know why Canelo got gifts against GGG.

My initial thoughts were that this would be a close fight but upon reading the fanboy posts that Hopkins would win easily, it reminds me how overrated some of these American fighters are.

Hopkins was a good champion who had some excellent wins, but GGG is not a thoughtless slugger. GGG would find a way to outbox The Executioner despite the inevitable headbutts and inside cheating, but most likely get a decision loss, as Hopkins was near impossible to KO in his prime.

We're going to have to agree to disagree whilst I'm not saying Hopkins resume at Middleweight is amazing but neither is Golovkin's resume either TBH.

I think personally Hopkins matches up quite well vs Golovkin he struggled more with athletically fast fighters rather than a come forward aggressive fighter like Golovkin.

Not a particular B-Hop but he is too educated for lil g the Kazakhstani terror who is himself a fine fighter and good champion. There are levels in boxing.

As much as I like Golovkin, flat-footed fighters never gave Hopkins problems. It was more the fast, athletic types like Dawson, Jones, Calzaghe and Taylor. Look what Hopkins did to Pavlik for example. He was also naturally bigger than Golovkin, as he started his career as a LHW.

I’ll take Hopkins by comfortable decision, like an 8-4, 9-3 type of fight. Hopkins would have spanked Canelo probably even worse but would lose the fight 120-108.

Two members said Hopkins is better than Hagler at Middleweight? I've heard more sensible things from plaintiffs on Judge Judy.
GGG would be too busy for Hopkins and he's his technical equal with greater power.
If they would have fought in their primes, I would have been rooting for Bernard to derail all the GGG fanaticism I surely would've been reading here though.
