This would've been a matchup I wouldn't have blamed Roy for steering clear of had they fought in the same era. Foster is an absolute monster head to head at LHW, on a par with Hearns at WW.
The most intimidating light heavyweight ever. I honestly think Bob would come into this bout with a strong dislike for Jones. You don''t trash talk Bob Foster and we know how Bob gets when he's angry. Remember Vincente Rondon? That's not saying that Roy is anything like Rondon, but Jones would be facing a man who was jabbing on even terms with Muhammad Ali !!! Roy's speed would give Foster trouble early on but Roy would have trouble getting past Bob's jab. I think once Roy tasted Foster's power he'd be on his bicycle for the rest of the evening. This could be like Foster's bout with Ray Anderson. Foster by easy decision or by kayo, anytime.
That's so weird. I was just thinking about this one. Prime RJJ is a potential nightmare for anyone but Foster may've had the best chance of any Light Heavyweight in history. I have to think no matter how fast Roy is, and how quickly he gets away, Foster would reach him. Hell, Foster could reach you if you were on the other side of the ring. Tough call.
:goodagree with this. other than charles, this is the light heavy fight i just have a lot of trouble finding a way for jones to win. foster was damn sturdy at 175, hardest hitter ever of that weight and had the reach, jab as you mentioned, and the boxing skills to keep the distance at what he wanted and prevent jones from overwhelming him early with speed. after the 4th foster is pounding that jab, preventing jones rushes and setting up the hook with that thudding right. Foster knocks him cold in the 6th
