:deal This is why I kinda hate the fact that Roy has fought so long. Someone said earlier that he had a china chin. What rubbish! In his prime he was the man. And Bob Foster would have been caught with some **** he had never seen. I think Bob could have eventually caught him, but it's not as if he would be pitching a shutout in the process. Roy in his prime gets dominated by NO ONE.
There are a handful of fighters I would pick to beat Roy head 2 head at Light Heavyweight, Foster is one of them.
Well, what fighter has ever been more impressively dominant against their level of opponent than Jones? His style is of course going to be more pleasing to watch than Foster's, or pretty much anybody's for that matter. The level of opposition definitely plays a large part in that, though. I can assure you, Foster would've beaten every single opponent Jones ever faced, perhaps all by knockout. The only questionables regarding that last statement would be Hopkins and Toney (and possibly Ruiz given the tactics he'd unqestionably resort to), but at LHW it's difficult to imagine any other result even given the quality of both men. Tiger was a better LHW (and MW for that matter) than Toney with just as solid a chin, and Foster completely layed him out with one flush shot to the jaw. A pre-prime Hopkins would more than likely be taken out as well, as difficult as it may be to envisage.
As good as Roy was, his style would not have made a difference against a great fighter like Foster, who was very tall and long ,and had a great jab. Roy had to get in range to score, and his speed would only get him so far. I don't think Roy has the power to stop Bob, and with the jab and Right power Bob had, I can't see Roy not getting hit by something that would put him to sleep.
I think foster would put away roy in 4 or 5 rds...........hes just too big....and lethal power for roy...............and the long jab..
Not too many landed flush on prime Roy. In this bout, Roy's speed and athleticism make it difficult for Foster to land like he usually did. Roy had it in him to go 12 without catching Foster's best, while landing enough to win a clear decision. If Foster manages to hurt him, even a bit, the game changes, and Roy gets KO'd. So I'm ambivalent as to a prediction, but I would probably slightly lean towards Roy in a breath-holding event.
to the idiot that said Jones would last 11 rounds with Foster :rofl:rofl:rofl:roflatschatschatschatsch
Foster was one of those "If I touch you then you're gone" fighters. Kinda like a well rounded highly skilled Earnie Shavers or Julian Jackson. He didn't have the flaws that Shavers or Jackson did such as suspect chin, stamina, and limited versatility. He could box AND slug it out....and do so with frightening compactness in close for a man built so long. Therefore Roy wouldn't even be safe in close quarters(which is where Tiger got iced by that left hook trying to burrow in close) A puncher of his caliber didn't even have to land flush to hurt you, and Roy could be dropped back then(Lou Del Valle anyone?) Roy would have to fight essentially a perfect fight dodging bullets thrown by a very skilled fighter who also was a brutal puncher who was only ever really beaten at a weight class he wasn't made for(heavyweight) and by ATG fighters(Ali, Frazier) and solid near great heavies(Terrell, Folley, Doug Jones). No shame in losing to these guys. This fight is essentially Roy playing Russian Roulette with punches instead of slugs.
One question for this one. Do I think Jones goes 12 rounds without getting hit by a right hand? Foster wasn't as mobile as Spinks, so you might find Jones winning a decision. ...If Foster lands, it's over though. So strange how he decapitated everybody at 175 but made no noise at Heavyweight.
