prime bowe vs prime foreman...

As long as Bowe managed to keep Foreman off him,it would be a fairly even fight. Sooner or later George would trap him and take him out. Probably within six rounds.

 

Good post. Foreman's ability to cut the ring off tends to get forgotten about sometimes. Ali,himself said that nobody did it better than George.

Who else did Bowe beat? A common statement in this forum. We dont know how great he could have become. Anyone that watched him fight at his best, and he did perform more consistently than people give him credit for, knows he was a super talent. Lennox Lewis had similar or worse struggles coming into his best, yet Bowe gets crticized much harder.
Bowe was a 6'5" man with excellent technical ability all around. To assume he would be a walk in the park for George based on who he didnt fight is ridiculous. The question should be who has Foreman beaten that has the size and ability of a Riddick Bowe?

 

There's no way Bowe fights a smart fight here. He's a warrior who would be far too willing to trade with Foreman in my opinion...and that equals a recipe for disaster.

Bowe has a good chin but was hurt against Hide and Holyfield, I'm not sure he's standing up to Foreman's bombs.

Also, Lennox did have as many struggles coming into his best, but then he maintained a high level for a far superior amount of time than Bowe did....thus proving it was no "flash in the pan".

After watching so many of Bowe's fights over and over again...I'm still not sure if he was a great fighter who had a short prime, or an above average fighter that just had the style to upset Holyfield.

That sort of doubt doesn't really leave me feeling confident about him beating Foreman.

 

In that post devils advocate. I think I previously posted my thoughts on this fight and I really dont know. Bowe wasnt just a brawler in every fight. He brawled when he felt he had the advantage and went for the kill when he saw an opening. All guys with this kind of style appear to get hit more overall.
Im one of the few that doesnt think Bowe trades with Foreman and approaches the fight more technically. If that was the case I would think he would have a really good shot.
Not that Im comparing Jorge Gonzalez to Foreman, but Bowe approached that fight with caution and calculation and took it too Gonzalez when he saw the openings. Gonzalez was a big puncher and Bowe systematically took apart a game fighter (even though he was never again) very impressively.

foreman always seemed to be a guy who depenant on this size,

and beat a lot of guys smaller then him,

and yes he fought ron lyle(and had lots of trouble there)
and even an aged cooney almost dropped him,

he just never seemed to want to fight bigger guys,
espically in his comeback....



he liked always walk forward and push guys back
this tatic is maybe a reason he did not want to fight larger guys

 

I'd favor George in this. Bowe's a very good fighter on the inside, but he's also got a leaky defense. I also believe Bowe is going to be more troubled by George's power than the other way around. Foreman also has a punishing jab when he works with it. I think George is going to force the fight on Bowe, and Bowe won't be able to keep him off.

 

Thats kind of my point, especially when you consider Bowe's inside game and the fact he was a 6'5" 240 pound big man.

 

Bowe doesnt belong in the ring with George.

I'll say Foreman, provided he's still standing. Given Bowe's height and reach, I find it not impossible that he could do number on George.
